The 2017 Celebrate Swarthmore Photographers exhibit will be on display in Borough Hall from October 5-29. One night only, come meet the photographers during a free reception open to the public. There will be wine and cheese along with live music by Jessica Graae.

OCTOBER 7
Swarthmore CO-OP 80th Anniversary
341 Dartmouth Avenue, 6-10 pm
Join the community in celebrating the Swarthmore CO-OP's 80th Anniversary. This festive event will feature a pig roast, provided by Grilladelphia Gourmet, CO-OP made vegetable lasagna, beer by 2SP Brewery, and a musical performance by Swarthmore's finest Sonoma Sound!  Tickets are $30 for owners / $35 for non-owners. 

OCTOBER 21
Swarthmore CO-OP Oktoberfest
341 Dartmouth Avenue, 7-9 pm
A celebration of German culture and cuisine, the CO-OP's Oktoberfest will feature beer samples from  Wrong Crowd Beer , food from  Stryker Farms  and  Cupcakeology , a beer swap, and live music from Dani Ocean. Tickets are $20 for owners / $25 for non-owners.

OCTOBER 27
Halloween Tots Parade
Starting at Thatcher Park on Rutgers Avenue, 4 pm 
It's time for Hall oween in Swarthmore! Kids 0 - 6 years (siblings welcome) are invited to come dressed up in costume on Friday, October 27  at 4 pm. Enjoy parading through downtown, with Ms. Allison of  World of Song  and Mr. Scott of the Swarthmore Public Library, to the delight of passersby's and shop merchants ready to greet you with goodies for trick or treat. Please no very scary costumes or weapons. 

The starting point will be at THATCHER PARK, known as the "Tot Lot", on Rutgers Avenue near the post office. The parade will conclude with a fun story time provided by Mr. Scott in the amphitheater. If raining heavily please go directly to the library at 121 Park Avenue for an indoor parade and story time. 

**All paraders must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian.**

OCTOBER 28
Halloween Youth Parade
Starting at Swarthmore Campus & Community Store on 4 South Chester Road, 11 am 
Why should tots have all of the fun? The Lions Club will lead a Halloween costume parade for kids ages 6 and older on Saturday, October 28 at 11 am. The starting point will be at the SWARTHMORE CAMPUS & COMMUNITY STORE. Enjoy parading through the business district and the Swarthmore Farmers Market. 

The Lions Club will award trophies for the Funniest Costume, Scariest Costume, Fanciest Costume, and the Best Group Costume. Mr. Scott will be at the Market with a special pumpkin decorating activity.  Free hayrides, departing from the Farmers Market, will be provided by TLC Landscape Services from 11 am - 1 pm. And be sure to visit our shop merchants who will have goodies for our costumed paraders through 1:30 pm. Come join the fun!

Events at the Swarthmore Public Library

Breakfast Bags for Seniors
Wednesday October 2, 1:45-3:15 pm 
Children ages 2-6 are invited to come by and help put together "Breakfast Bags" for
homebound seniors. The Library is looking for families to donate single serve breakfast food and drink items, as well as kids to compile the bags and add their own homemade cards to brighten each recipients day! Visit this Signup Genius link to see a list of items that are needed.

Rockwell & Wyeth: The Great American Storytellers
Wednesday October, 2 pm
Presented by Fred Dixon, this art lecture will examine what makes Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth two artists beloved by the public, but often attacked by the critics.

Food for Thought Cookbook Club
Thursday October 5, 4 pm
Get in on the Cookbook Club! In October, the Club explores Korean Cuisine with The Kimchi Chronicles - Korean Cooking for an American Kitchen by Marja Vongerichten. Come to the Library, pick out a recipe, whip up the recipe at home then bring your dish to the Club meeting to share and discuss!

Flu Shot Clinic
Tuesday October 10, 2-4 pm
"Get a Shot - Give a Shot" sponsored by Walgreens
When you get a flu shot, you will provide a lifesaving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the Walgreens/United Nations Foundation. Walgreens accepts most insurance plans. If you have Medicare Part B, you will have no out of pocket cost.

PAWS for Reading
Thursdays October 5 & 19, 6:30 pm
Children can come to the library and practice reading to the best listener - a dog! Three therapy dog teams will be here to meet with beginning and reluctant readers and to listen to children (kindergartners and older) read a book of their choice. This is also an ideal opportunity for English language learners. Registration is required.

Saturdays in the Park: It's the Swarthmore Farmers Market!

Awarded "Best in Class" in 2016, the #1 Farmers Market in Pennsylvania occurs every Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in Swarthmore's Central Park. In addition to beautifully-raised fresh produce, meats, and dairy from area farms, the market offers an array of locally-made specialty food items. The market is also your destination for live music, hand-crafted art, children's activities, and health and wellness activities for the whole family. FREE Small Business Seminars

The Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides one-on-one consulting services and a series of educational programs and seminars to new and existing businesses in southeastern Pennsylvania.

On October 3 from 9-11 am, the SBDC will present a program entitled First Steps.  It will assist entrepreneurs as they start on the path to successful  business ownership. Participants will discuss entrepreneurship and what it takes to start a successful business. On October 24 from 9-11 am, the SBDC will offer a seminar on Marketing Plans.  This course will guide entrepreneurs to the right questions to ask about their market, provide tools to find the most valuable answers to those questions, and how to go forward in constructing a formal plan.
