2 MAJOR PUBLIC ART EXHIBITIONS OPEN THIS WEEK!

Sculpture Exhibition in Newport Beach Civic Center Park
Nine works by artists around the United States will be featured for two years in the third phase of this exhibition sited in the 14-acre Civic Center Park, opening this Saturday, October 28 at 1:30 pm.  David Boyer's "Getting Your Bearings," pictured above, a kinetic sculpture, was one of the first to be installed this week.  The exhibition is a program of the City Arts Commission of Newport Beach, and was coordinated by Arts Orange County.  View the other selections here.

"Wings of the City" Exhibition Opens in Santa Ana
"Wings of the City, a public outdoor exhibit of nine bronze sculptures by contemporary figurative artist, Jorge MarĂ­n, opens officially on Friday, October 27 and will continue through October 2018.  The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Santa Ana and the Consulate of Mexico, and features nine works displayed throughout downtown Santa Ana.  More information here.

THE WOODEN FLOOR APPOINTS NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
FALON BALTZELL

After a nationwide search, The Board of Directors and staff of The Wooden Floor announced the selection of Falon Baltzell (FAL-un BALT-zell) as the organization's new Artistic Director. Baltzell is a dance artist, choreographer, dance educator, and youth developer. This leadership role is a natural progression in her career as a recognized choreographer and artist, and the former Director of Upper School Dance at Hathaway Brown School in Ohio, where she facilitated the commissioning of national and international touring artists, developed dance education curriculum and choreography, and built significant relationships with colleagues, students, and their parents.   Details here.
PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY BRINGS OC YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA INTO ITS ORGANIZATION

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County announced this week that effective this season, the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra will officially become part of the Philharmonic Society.  "Our history as collaborators has covered more than three decades, and this seemed like a natural evolution for our partnership...
T ogether, we'll be able to create remarkable opportunities for emerging musicians here in Orange County," said John Mangum, President and Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Society.
The next scheduled concert by the OC Youth Symphony will take place on December 9 in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, and will be feature a one-hour-long version of the beloved opera Hansel and Gretel.  Details here.
