As the City Council continues to  deliberate proposals aimed at resolving issues related to transient vacation units (TVU) and bed-and-breakfast establishments (B&B's), your input is greatly appreciated and will guide us in moving forward to implement solutions.

Last week, I polled residents on their thoughts regarding the City implementing regulations on TVU's and B&B's.   Here are your results:

General Comments:

SUPPORT
AGAINST
Brings in additional revenue for local homeowners Should keep commercial activity out of local neighborhoods
Helps local families make ends meet Reduces housing inventory for local families to rent
Provides inexpensive alternative to costly hotels Increasing in housing costs and rents are driving away families to move out of Hawaii
Encourages growth of tourism industry Noise concerns

Mahalo to our residents for sharing your feedback with me. This is a very important issue that has been heavily-debated by both sides and as the Chair of the Zoning & Housing Committee, it is my priority to work with all stakeholders to implement sensible and workable solutions which will guide us in the future.  I look forward to hearing back from the City's Planning Commission and the Mayor's Task Force, as well as advocates on both sides of this issue to equally debate these measures before they go forward to the Council for further review.
