Grant Spotlight: LCJSMS Librarians Present at National Conference
Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Summit Educational Foundation, the librarians from Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School recently presented at a national conference. Megan Hartley and Beth Thomas were given the opportunity to attend AMLE, the Association of Middle Level Educators' conference in Philadelphia due to an SEF grant. AMLE is touted as "the most valuable and comprehensive professional development opportunity in the world for any person working with students ages 10-15." Megan and Beth presented two sessions. The first was "A Spark and Tell" session about how they have incorporated maker education into their library program. They then led a concurrent session on their endeavors to bring computer coding into LCJSMS. In addition to presenting, Megan and Beth were able to attend a variety of sessions covering everything from learning more about the adolescent brain to motivating reluctant learners. Attending this conference gave them the opportunity to reflect on their practice as middle school educators and provided them with many strategies and ideas to bring back to LCJSMS.
