Brother David Steindl-Rast writes, "The root of joy is gratefulness...It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful." As we enter the holiday season, with all its stresses, we will explore the power of gratefulness as a spiritual practice and source of resilience. The UU General Assembly chalice will be our chalice this morning. Music from the CrUUners and Amy Hassinger. This is "Guest at Your Table" Sunday, to support the UU Service Committee.

During the holidays, old hurts and difficulties can arise, in our families and in ourselves. In this service we will be exploring spiritual practices of forgiveness. The UUCUC choir will be performing.

Our Monthly Book & Magazine Exchange is Sunday!
Bring in your books or magazines to the monthly Book & Magazine Exchange this Sunday. Books & magazines can be for children & adults. Stop by the table at the far east end of Fellowship Hall on Sunday to pick up a book or magazine that interests you. You can take home books or magazines without donating any & vice versa.

Last Chance to Order Poinsettias.
Thank you to everyone who has already purchased some! We have enough now for the Sanctuary windows, but we also could use some in other spots around our building. If you would like to order one, please fill out an envelope on the Poinsettia Table in Fellowship Hall. The poinsettias will decorate the Sanctuary from December 10

Sophie Meyn - My scans have been consistently showing no growth and actually that my scar tissue an reduced since December. My oncologist says I am in complete remission from my brain cancer. I am feeling well most days!

Food Donations:
Think of small, nutritious snacks, prepackaged, non-perishable—such as granola bars, juice boxes, tangerines, & small boxes of raisons. Not bottled water, this year. Quantity? Anywhere from 1 to a dozen snacks. For more info see the FUMC flier at the SAC table.

Holiday Backpack Project 2017
The Daily Bread Soup Kitchen celebrates the holidays by giving filled backpacks to the men and women who are guests at lunch. Our church will again participate in this program. Packs will not be given to children, since there are many gift programs in the community specifically for children. However, for many of the men and women who attend the soup kitchen, these backpacks will be their only holiday presents.

November Shared Offering Recipient: Family Service of Champaign County
During the month of November, half of all cash donations and all designated checks will go to Family Service of Champaign County, a private, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. Founded in 1911, they are the oldest private social service agency in Champaign County and have provided continuous service to families and individuals for more than 100 years. Their mission is supporting people across the generations by providing quality human services; this includes Meals on Wheels and Senior Transportation. See their

UUCUC Mindfulness Meditation Group
- Join fellow UU's in a mindfulness mediation practice before worship service on Sundays (
detailed schedule) in the YRUU room.
As always, the door will be left slightly open so that late arrivals can enter quietly.

The Interfaith Alliance of Champaign County will host its 2
nd
Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Program on Sunday, November 19 at 3 PM at the I Hotel,
1900 S. First St., Champaign. The theme of this year’s event is “Tapestry of Faith and Community: Our Lives are Woven Together.”
There is no charge. Please bring donations of non-perishable food items to support the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Also bring ribbons, string, strips of cloth, or other weaveable materials that will be utilized in the creation of a public art project. Children's activities will be provided.
