WHEN SMARTPHONES GO TO SCHOOL
Some 90 percent of teens with cell phones send texts. The typical number is 30 texts per day. That's the median number from the Pew data. Additionally, the Pew report shows, 92 percent of teens go online daily. Almost one in four claims to be online "almost constantly."

You need to be tech-savvy, both in and outside of school. But too much tech time at school for things other than classwork can cost you, new studies show. Unfortunately, kicking the habit of using cellphones and other mobile devices in class can be a hard.

"You're putting yourself at a disadvantage when you are actively engaged with your mobile device in class and not engaged in what's going on," warns Kuznekoff. His team shared its findings in the July 2015 issue of Communication Education.

Those findings mesh with what college students themselves report. Another new study found that the more time students said that they typically text, use social media or read online during class, the lower their grades are.

From the Office of Student Affairs:
Attendance:  As the Principal noted at Back to School Night, regular attendance is so important. Please be advised that students whose absences are excessive will receive failing grades in each of his/her courses for the current semester.  A student who is absent ten (10) days in one semester without providing acceptable verification of those days will receive a grade of 65 for each course.  Each additional absence will result in a further deduction of 5 points for the semester.  Examples of acceptable verification of absence are doctor's note for illness, court documents for legal appointments, funeral card or obituary for bereavement days, and official college notes for college visits.
From the Office of Academic Affairs:
CCHS students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will take the PSAT on October 11.2017. Parents often have questions about this test. While many consider the PSAT a practice test for the SAT, it is so much more. The PSAT is also part of the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Founded in 1955, the National Merit Corporation seeks to identify and honor academically talented students. Freshmen will take the PSAT8/9. The purpose of the PSAT 8/9 is to establish a starting point in terms of college and career readiness as student's transition to high school. Tenth grade students take the PSAT as practice for the junior year, and to help CCHS enhance its academic program. Only junior year scores are used by the National Merit Corporation as part of its award program. Students received study guides from their guidance counselors, and are encouraged to practice for the upcoming tests.  More information, and practice items, can be found at:
