YOGA BEYOND WORDS with Cara-Lynne
Mirror Mirror

So, sometimes when life gets busy, I sneak into the studio a few minutes before my class to practice yoga before actually teaching it.  The other day when I was in the beautiful Sky room at  Beyond , it occurred to me there were no mirrors.  While I obviously have been aware of this before, perhaps it was more relevant on this day as I was practicing yoga for one of my favourite, and ironically least favourite benefits.  What I like to call the FYOS benefit of yoga; Face Your Own, well Stuff (fyi, that is a g-rated substitution on the S word).  Yes, my friends, one of the greatest, and often most difficult side effects of yoga is how much it makes us really look in the mirror, even when, or perhaps especially when, there isn't one.  And honestly, sometimes that ain't pretty.

*clearly not that healthy yogic glow...

Envy, jealousy, self-doubt, resentment, insecurity are all feelings we all have, sometimes every day.  And that's okay.  It is what we do with them that matters...
MESSAGES FROM OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

As it gets colder outside and the snow comes, Chrysalis House staff start planning for the winter holidays.  It is our goal to make it a special holiday for every woman and child that accesses Chrysalis House.  We are now collecting new donations and sponsorship opportunities for the women and children living at Chrysalis House and for those who have recently moved out and will be celebrating their first Christmas in their new home.

If you are interested in donating or sponsoring a woman or family please give us a call at 613-591-5991 ext. 221.  We also have our winter wish list posted on our website. Thank you once again for the generosity of the Beyond Yoga community!

P.S. If possible, we kindly request that donations be brought in  prior to December 15th as that gives us more time to distribute them to the women and families. Donations received after December 15th will still be warmly welcomed.

Every month, over 800 adults and children come to the Kanata Food Cupboard for food assistance.  In addition to our regular services, the Kanata Food Cupboard also assists individuals and families through our annual Christmas hamper program.  Last year, we saw a 12% increase from the previous year. Over 900 children had presents to unwrap on Christmas morning, and over 1800 adults and children had healthy food to enjoy on Christmas day.

We expect an increase again this year.  By adopting a family in 2017, you can help us ensure individuals and families receive the Christmas assistance that they need.

To adopt-a-family this year, please visit our website at www.kanatafoodcupboard.ca and complete the registration form.  Adopt-a-family registration is open until December 4, so please register today.  The sooner we receive your registration, the sooner we can match you with someone who needs your help.

Thank you for helping both adults and children have a wonderful Christmas. We hope we can count on your support again this year.  The Kanata Food Cupboard

Help us better understand the needs of cancer survivors and their families.  Help us better understand the impact of cancer in our community.  If everyone can share their experience today, we can help those who will be facing cancer tomorrow.

The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation wants to make sure they stay focused on what matters to you and continue to truly understand the experience of all families facing cancer.

That's why they've launched the "What Matters to You" project. We invite YOU to participate in the conversation by sharing your experience today to help those facing cancer tomorrow.

TEA 101

This tidbit ranks as one of my favourite to enlighten tea drinkers with!
  • Legend has it that Emperor Shen Nong discovered tea in 2737 BC. While boiling water under the shade of a tree, a few leaves fell into the water creating a delicately perfumed liquor.
  • Tea is the world's oldest beverage and is the most widely consumed beverage worldwide after water!
  • There are literally thousands of teas grown and manufactured in tea producing countries, yet no two taste the same! What differentiates the multitude of teas out there? The answer is 'terroir'!...
