Thank you to everyone that participated in our "Open Kingdom" annual event last week. I think everyone enjoyed their evening on campus. Our teachers and staff were very proud to open the campus for our community members.

This Wednesday our Knight soccer teams make their way into the playoffs (details below). The playoffs open here at LNMS at 5:00 PM. Please come on out and cheer on our student athletes as they face both Liberty and Southwest middle schools.

I hope you enjoy this week's update and have a successful week ahead. Thank you for your continued support.

Knight Open Kingdom

Thank you for finding time in your busy schedules to attend our Open Kingdom (House) Tuesday and Thursday night. We enjoyed seeing you again and having the opportunity to share the learning that goes on in the classrooms. The support and involvement of families is greatly appreciated by the teachers and staff and it is the number one thing parents can do for their child's education. We would also like to thank our vendors for supporting our community and students by attending our Open Kingdom.

Knight Sports

Last Wednesday night our soccer teams played their last regular season games against Walker Middle School. The girls score was 8-0 and our boys score was 2-0. Both of our teams ended the season undefeated 6-0.

We will host our first playoff games Wednesday, October 4th at home. Girls play at 5:00pm and the boys play at 6:00pm. Please come out and support our teams. Good luck Knights!

Knight Chorus

The LNMS Boys Chorus participated in a field trip to see Newsies at the Orlando Repertory Theatre. Some student reflections from the trip included:

"I learned that being quiet and respectful during the performance helps others enjoy it more and also helps the actors concentrate."

"I learned that applauding when appropriate is the best form of appreciation at a performance - instead of wooing or shouting."

"My favorite part was meeting a cast member, Daniel Tracht, who was an LNMS Chorus alumni."

"My favorite part was singing on the bus with my friends and making up harmonies."

Latino Knights

Juan I. Vega Elementary School

Our Latinos in Action from Lake Nona Middle adopted an elementary school in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico with students in need after the hurricane disaster ( Juan I. Vega Elementary School). They are making HOPE shoe boxes with school supplies for students in there that lost everything so when they return to school may have those basics they need. Each shoe box contains a suggested list of supplies, a toy and an encouragement personalized letter from the LIA student to the student that may receive it.

HOPE boxes that will be shipped to Juan I. Vega Elementary School this month.

Book Review of the Week
Moving Target by Christina Diaz Gonzalez (Review courtesy of Goodreads.com)

Cassie Arroyo, an American studying in Rome, has her world ripped apart when someone tries to kill her father, an art history professor at an Italian university. Is she their next target?

Cassie sets out to uncover what is happening, only to learn that she is a member of an ancient bloodline that enables her to use the Spear of Destiny-a legendary object that can alter the future. Now running from a secret organization intent on killing those from her bloodline, Cassie must-with the help of some friends-decipher the clues that will lead her to the Spear.

Christina Diaz Gonzalez has created a fast-paced thrill-ride of a book, rich with riddles and myth, that young readers will not want to put down.
