Mel Brooks tells of going into a New York City deli. He was startled at what he saw. There were, of course, the deli meats and breads, but what startled Brooks were the shelves behind the display counters. They were filled with salt. On the left was salt, on the right was salt, and there was salt on the shelves behind the checkout counter. Salt was everywhere!
Brooks asked the deli owner, "I guess you sell a lot of salt." The owner replied, "No, I really don't. But the man who calls on me is a really good salt salesman."
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving, and on this Victory Sunday celebrating the conclusion of our stewardship campaign, it should be an easy sell to convince you to be at UMCE!
Here's what we're selling. As has become our tradition on the Sunday before Thanksgiving we welcome the Queen City Jazz Band. This is one of my favorite groups anywhere, anytime. They will be doing several numbers in the 10:30 service (think "Just A Closer Walk with Thee and "When The Saints"). After the service we will have a Thanksgiving meal with the church furnishing the turkey and dressing (you are asked to bring a complimentary side dish).
In the 8:30 service Terry is playing one of my favorite patriotic songs, "America the Beautiful" (written right down the road at Colorado College in 1904). The sermon in both services will be "Being Beautifully Extravagant".
I hope I have sold you on being here Sunday. And I hope you will go and sell someone else on coming with you!
"and the folks are friendly"
