"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness
and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22-23

Whether your family has been a part of the PACS Family for years or this is your first year with us, we all know by now what an incredibly special place Prince Avenue Christian School is to each of us. Having an overall goal of saturating our students in a Biblical worldview intentionally leads us to being a distinctive school with a distinctive culture.
One of the many ways that we are different from the world around us is the manner in which our Homecoming Court is selected. Since we know that God looks at the heart of a person (I Samuel 16:7), we seek to do the same. We believe that, even though we cannot see a person’s heart the way that God sees a person’s heart, we can clearly see the overflow and evidences of what is in a person’s heart.
It is on the basis of the known outcomes (commonly referred to as the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) of a life that is guided by the Holy Spirit of God that our students recognize and select their peers to represent their grade and their school on the Homecoming Court. This past week in Chapel, we discussed the choice that each one of us make: who/what we freely choose to guide our lives…and the outcomes of that decision.
As you are in your homes, in your cars, and around the table this upcoming week, read the following passage and discuss the following questions:
[READ Galatians 5:16-23]
- “If you are a follower of Jesus Christ your identity is, and will forever be, a son or daughter of God. Why is this truth so important to know and understand?”
- “Why do you believe that God gives His children the freedom to choose who/what will guide their lives?”
- “Why is it important to know that whether you freely choose to be guided by your sinful nature or you freely choose to be guided by the Holy Spirit, both have outcomes?”
- “Why does it seem so easy to be guided by our sinful nature, yet so hard to be guided by the Holy Spirit?”
- “Why do you think that it is important that our grade-levels and our school are represented by young men and young women who demonstrate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in their lives?”
