BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
I was thrilled to see the great parent turnout at our Back to School Night last Thursday evening. Thank you to Associate Principal Michael Wanmer for organizing the evening with the help of Link Crew, the PTSA, the Athletic Booster Club, CCC and office staffs, and of course, our wonderful teachers and counselors. As always, special thanks to our custodial staff and grounds keepers for all their efforts in maintaining our campus.

PTSA volunteers provided coffee and cookies

BACK TO ZOO BBQ
This past Friday, Link Crew hosted its 4th  annual Back to Zoo BBQ for all freshmen and transfer students. Our newest Panthers enjoyed good food, music, and exciting games and activities, with PVPHS's dedicated Link Crew Leaders facilitating all of the fun.
Link Crew Coordinator Ms. Dibble would like to express her sincere appreciation to Mrs. Anderson, Ms Gerling,  Mrs. Hendrick, and Mrs. Kealey for braving the dunk tank! Freshmen teachers Mrs. Logan, Mrs. Choi, Mr. Daley, Ms. Leonard, Mrs. Borstel, and Mrs. Okamoto also deserve a shout out for showing up to partake in the fun. Thanks to the JV Song team for performing at the event and to Don Frazier and Earl Kwak for being our grill masters. In addition, Link Crew Leaders Eugene Pak, Madeline Kim, Makenna Toumaian, Eve Albino, Chloe Albino, Pamela Gutierrez, Kimmy Ahmady, Nicholas Goldenberg, Darren Wei, Joanne Lee, Jo Cook, and Ed Rosas all deserve special recognition for going above and beyond on the day of the event to make sure everything ran smoothly.
PVPHS Link Crew will have many more festive events planned throughout the rest of the year...stay tuned, freshmen and transfers!

BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS
We were thrilled to offer the Breaking Down the Walls Program to our Panther Family for the first time this past week.  As part of Yellow Ribbon Week, Breaking Down the Walls focused on giving our students the invaluable opportunity to get to know other students on our campus.  On Monday, our entire school attended the Breaking Down the Walls assembly.  Then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, a smaller group of students participated in meaningful and intentional games, activities, and important conversations, all of which were facilitated by the extraordinary Breaking Down the Walls team.  I am confident the participating students realized just how connected they actually are, and that there are MANY members of our school community who they can turn to.
A big thank you to ASB and PLUS Leadership for organizing this important week.  Also thank you to ASB for paying for the program and to the PTSA, who helped pay for the cost of lunch for the student participants.

HEARING AND VISION TESTING
Our school nurse Wendy Keller and the PVPUSD Vision and Hearing Team successfully screened over 700 students for vision and/or hearing in September. The students were well behaved and polite. A great big thank you to our parent volunteers La Wanda Zschielle, Terri Rogers, and Ann Esposito. It would have been difficult to have the screenings go so smoothly without our parent helpers!

PARENT UNIVERITY
Parent University, a collaboration between PVPUSD and the Peninsula Education Foundation , provides parents and students support and education through a speaker series covering topics that will help your child navigate through school and life. Today our children live in a non-stop world. Smart phones and technology make us all faster, but slowing down may make us healthier and happier. Learn how mindfulness not only reduces stress, but also helps our kids build inner strength, focus and compassion.

You will not want to miss our Parent University speaker this Tuesday, October 3 at Palos Verdes Intermediate School from 6-7 pm (Parents only)
Mindfulness: Practical Tools for Parents and Students
Presenter: Marriage and Family Therapist and nationally certified school psychologist Bryan Guthrie, M.S. LMFT LEP
