The Baraboo Public Library offers a safe and welcoming environment, providing area residents and visitors with confidential access to cutting edge, high quality resources.
Riptide is a summer swim program for ages 5 to 18. Registration is open for the spring stroke clinic and summer season.
All players interested in being placed on a team for the 2017 season must register and participate in evaluations.

JYMS Students Get Hands-On with Science
|
Jack Young Middle School science teacher Ms. Stacy Parsons led her class through a hands-on science experiment that forced them to use their brain - literally. Their sheep brain, that is.
The students were tasked with dissecting a sheep brain. They labeled the different areas of the brain, such as the frontal lobe and cerebellum, describing what each part of the brain does. Ms. Parsons pointed out the optic nerves where the brain connects to the eyes!

JYMS Honors Veterans Day with Annual Assembly
|
Jack Young Middle School held its annual Veterans Day assembly on Monday.
Principal John Gunnell began the morning by saying, "Of all the assemblies we do at JYMS, none holds a dearer place in my heart than our annual Veterans Day assembly. The focus of today's assembly is service and today we'd like to recognize the many ways in which our servicemen and women make our communities safe and strong."
Principal Gunnell had the students and attendees rise for the Posting of the Colors by Greenwood Memorial Post No. 987, and they remained standing as the JYMS Jazz Band and WIN Choir led the assembly in the National Anthem.
JYMS teacher Mrs. Melissa McDonald recognized several veterans who are important parts of the school and our Baraboo community:
William Schrieber - A WWII veteran who is father of Mrs. Gogue, and Grandfather to Mrs. Marianne Steiner.
Sargeant Thomas Clark - A Veteran of the vietnam war who served with the 82nd airborne division and Grandfather of sixth grader Hayden Schemehorn.
Mr. Scott Pionke - Physical education teacher and former member of the Army Reserves.
Mrs. Kris Statz - JYMS teacher and former army combat medic. Also, mother to some current and former students.
Mr Fred Kolmorgen - Fred leads our custodial staff at JYMS. Before joining us he served with the Air force for 20 years. He retired as a master sergeant after serving in both domestic and foreign posts.
She also thanked the veterans from Greenwood Memorial VFW Post No. 987.
JYMS student Ethan Witthun spoke on "The History of Veterans Day," student Joe Bullock spoke about "The Poppy," and Eva Huffaker read the poem "In Flanders Fields."
High School social studies teacher and veteran Mr. Steve Argo and Wisconsin National Guard active duty member Major Matthew McDonald spoke on the importance of service and serving our community, followed by performances by the WIN Choir and JYMS Jazz Band.
The ceremony was concluded with a traditional 21 Gun Salute by the Greenwood Memorial Post No. 987, followed by the play of Taps by JYMS band students and Ms. Lumsden for the Retiring of the Colors.
We would like to thank visiting guests and honored Veterans for attending this JYMS tradition. We are #Barabooproud to have this assembly each year.

Baraboo School District Celebrates AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK!
|
This week is the National Education Association's 95th annual American Education Week! We are using this week to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education. The AEW tagline, "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility," reflects NEA's vision of calling upon all Americans to do their part in making public schools great for every child so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century.
The weeklong celebration will spotlight distinguished individuals who are critical in building a great public school system here in Baraboo: our teachers, our students, our families, our Education Support Professionals, our Community Business Partners, our Guest Educators (substitute teachers), and more!

East Holds Literacy Extravaganza
|
East Elementary students in third through fifth grades spent time with author Darcy Miller of the book "Roll" on November 9, 2017. She shared with the students where she got her ideas for books, how long it takes to get a book published, and inspired kids to work hard and dream big.
After school, all students and family members were invited to participate in the school's Literacy Extravaganza. Students made books and bookmarks, listened to books, and read from a new book they selected. Finally, students were able to make an origami pigeon that rolled when it flew based on Darcy's visit.

Second Graders Salute Soldiers on Veteran's Day
|
Mrs. Knipp's second grade class at East Elementary honored those who have served our country last week by commemorating Veterans Day by writing letters to veterans, reading and learning more about this day in history, and they were even able to try on a Marine and Army coat from the 1950s.

Gasser Speaks to Health and Careers Class
|
Jack Young Middle School Health and Careers Teacher Mr. Tyler Fish invited Gasser Construction into the 6th grade careers class Sept. 20. Gasser provided hard hats for all the students. Thank you, Gasser Construction!

Hill-Dale Visits First Graders at GLW
|
Dr. Sam told the students about what it means to be a veterinarian and the types of animals veterinarians work with. She showed the students pictures of x-rays and discussed why a pet might need an x-ray; talked about the importance of caring for a pet's eyes and teeth; and answered questions the students had.
This is Dr. Sam's fourth year as Mrs. Lane's Classroom Community Connection partner. She comes to Mrs. Lane's classroom several times throughout the year to teach students about her profession.
We are #Barabooproud of this Classroom Community Connection - thank you for partnering with the Baraboo School District, Hill-Dale Veterinary Hospital!

ABE Honors Military Heroes
|
Al Behrman Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day with a Wall of Heroes.
Teachers and students were given yellow "hero ribbons." They wrote the names of both current and past members from their families who have served in the military to honor them and their service. #Barabooproud

NF Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Literacy
|
On Monday, November 13, 2017 North Freedom students and families participated in technology and reading activities under the theme of "Roll out the Red Carpet for Literacy!"
The families enjoyed literacy tasks, including creating Storyboards, Reader's Theater scripts and filming with iPads, Sight Word Pop, Concession Stand Creations, Movie Night and Lights, Camera, Read. Creativity was noted as each person added their star to the red carpet that adorned the halls of the school. The best part was that each student selected a book to take home and many red carpet photo opportunities were provided with the paparazzi always present.

The Baraboo High School 2017-'18 Prom will be held on May 5, 2018

It was previously announced that the Prom would take place on April 28, 2018
, but this date causes conflicts with other events and activities. Prom has typically been held on the first Saturday
in May, and BHS will continue with that tradition.
