Turkey Drive 2017: Thursday, November 23, 12:00 p.m. UUCF has partnered with Frederick County Progressives by hosting this event. We will be delivering individually boxed Thanksgiving meals to those in need. We will also be serving a Thanksgiving meal at the UUCF for anyone in the community who wishes to participate in this giving and sharing event.
We invite our friends in the local activist community, any others who wish to give back to the community that we all love, and anyone in the community who would like company on the holiday to join us. We've organized many ways so that nearly everyone to take part:

Frederick Refuge Recovery Open Meetings: Thursdays, beginning November 2, 7:00 p.m. (Room 125). Refuge Recovery Is a mindfulness-based addiction recovery community that practices and utilizes Buddhist philosophy as the foundation of the recovery process. Drawing inspiration from the core teachings of the Four Noble Truths, emphasis is placed on both knowledge and empathy as a means for overcoming addiction and its causes. Those struggling with any form of addiction greatly benefit when they are able to understand the suffering that addiction has created while developing compassion for the pain they have experienced. Sacred Dream Work: Part I: Saturday, December 2, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Room 113). Have you ever been interested in knowing more about your dreams? This class will introduce to basic concepts, such as why we dream, different types of dreams, the value of befriending our dreams and a basic framework that you can use to explore your night visions. We will also look at several dream examples to deepen our understanding. Donation (shared with UUCF) $40. Led by Rev. Rebecca Hill an Ordained Interfaith Minister with experience in dream work facilitation who has trained at several C.G. Jung Centers in the U.S. and Zurich. For additional information, email Rev. Rewrite Your Story: Change Your Past to Live a Better Present and Future: Saturday, December 9, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Chapel)
We all have stories about who we are, what we have to do, and what we can and cannot accomplish. These stories keep us from living a life we love. But it doesn't have to be this way. In this workshop, fellow member and certified Life Coach Julia Jones will show you a way out. Participants will leave with tools and strategies for examining life events to create new stories that encourage growth, celebrate strengths, and create the freedom to help you find and live your best life.  Donations gratefully accepted for UUCF.

Toys for Tots Season: Di Creedon of the Social Action Committee is serving as our liaison with Toys for Tots again this year.  Sponsored by the Marine Reserves, Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys for children in need for distribution during the holidays. Di has placed the collection boxes by the entry coat closet for your convenience.  Bring a smile to a child during the holiday season!

Dismantling Racism Team News

U.S. Slavery in the North:  When Katrina Browne was 28 years old and in seminary, she learned that her ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. And, they were not from the South; they had lived in Rhode Island. Katrina wrote to 200 family members, inviting them to explore their family's past. The result: an award-winning documentary, Traces of the Trade , made with co-producer Juanita Brown, who helped plan a journey to Africa for the group and facilitate painful conversations about their discoveries. Sharing Our Stories: The Transformative Value of Caucusing: Saturday, December 2, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. River Road UU, Bethesday. All UUs are welcome to join the workshop which will focus on learning and reflection based on the themes of the book Unitarian Universalists of Color , and will be facilitated by book contributors Yuri Yamamoto and Takiyah Nur Amin. The session will include time dedicated to caucusing as people of color and white-identified Unitarian Universalists. EJI Joins Community to Memorialize Six People Lynched on Maryland's Eastern Shore: From our friends at Bryan Stevenson's Equal Justice  Initiative -  recently c ommunity members, activists from Showing Up for Racial Justice and the Fenix Youth Project, and EJI staff joined together for a pilgrimage along Maryland's Eastern Shore, collecting soil at the sites where six young men were lynched, as part of EJI's Community Remembrance Project.
