"Heal Me, Hands of Jesus"
We sang these words last Sunday at 9:00 as our Communion hymn. How appropriate, as it was the second day of the third Anne Berry Bonnyman Symposium, themed "Is Inequality Bad for Our Health?"

Trinity has historically been a beacon of hope in the midst of the city. We are embracing that role in a number of ways, including the Symposium, where we served as a convener of experts, practitioners, and volunteers to learn from each other about the realities of income and race as barriers to equity in health care. We heard from researchers and clinicians working on new approaches that better address root causes of health issues. We heard from advocates and counselors who help individuals facing personal and institutional challenges. We heard about legislation now pending at the State House. And we heard words of spiritual encouragement and challenge for our own lives and for the community of which we are a part. Through new knowledge and partnerships, we can now take concrete steps towards God's desire for the wellbeing of all people.

Planning and offering the Bonnyman Symposium required lots of work by parishioners who are dedicated to understanding and working for a better life for all of God's children. It is part of our response as faithful disciples, followers of Jesus who lifts each of us up from all that holds us down and reconciles us to God and to each other.

In this stewardship season, we are thinking more intentionally about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. We acknowledge the gifts that God has placed in our hands and pray that we may be wise stewards of those gifts. We reflect on the ways in which we encounter Christ in our church, and make commitments about the use of our gifts in ways that help build God's beloved community. And we think about the use of our money as part of those commitments.

Each decision about pledging is part of the spiritual journey that we embrace as part of our Baptismal Covenant. We have made promises to follow Christ, to learn to love our neighbors, to be faithful in worship and prayer, all "with God's help." Our gifts of money are a logical extension of those promises, the desire of our hearts to advance God's work of love, in our own hearts, through this church, and in the lives of all whom we entrust to God's care.

Please join me in making your pledge to Trinity Church as part of your commitment to healing and reconciliation. When we join God in that work, we find healing for ourselves and for the broader community.

"Heal me, hands of Jesus, and search out all my pain:restore my hope an, remove my fear, and bring me peace again."
--Hymn 773, Wonder, Love and Praise

Faithfully,
