AISD - Collin College Partner To Build Dual Credit Facility

STEAM Center construction underway on Ridgeview Drive

Allen ISD and Collin College will partner to build additional classroom and lab space at the planned Collin College Technical Campus across from the future STEAM Center in Allen. The shared wing of the facility will expand dual credit availability for Allen High School students.

The Technical Campus, a 360,000-square-foot facility specializing in high-demand technical workforce education, will be built east of Exchange Parkway, adjacent to the Allen High School STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Center. Under a partnership agreement, Allen ISD will fund construction of a 40,000-square-foot addition to the planned campus.

The addition will exclusively house dual credit programs for Allen High School students from 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. during the school year. Collin College will use the space when Allen High School classes are not in session, providing night and weekend educational opportunities for other students.

The Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved an expenditure of $12 million for the addition, which will include 15 classrooms, computer labs, science wet labs and breakout spaces for collaboration. The college will manage and maintain the addition as part of the Technical Campus. The Collin College Board of Trustees and Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the 50-year agreement at separate meetings in November.

Boosters Donate $50K Towards Band Trailers
The Allen Escadrille convoy will take on a new look next fall with the addition of two semi-trailers.  The Board of Trustees approved the purchase of two renovated semi-trailers to haul equipment for the 770+ member band, color guard and Tallenettes.

The two 53-foot trailers will be purchased from Kentucky Trailers and then renovated for Escadrille use by Clubhouse Trailers. The total cost for both trailers and renovations will be $259,738.

Prior to the Board's decision, the Allen High School Escadrille Booster Association made a donation of $50,000 towards the purchase of the trailers.

The Escadrille has previously rented box trucks to haul band equipment to sporting events and competitions. Cabs will still be rented to haul the new trailers.

This past year the Escadrille included 630-650 wind, brass, and percussion players, 60 color guard, and 60 drill team members. When the marching band travels, it typically transports 313 pieces of large instruments and equipment to each event.

Thank you to the Escadrille Boosters and everyone who helped raise the funds. The trailers will roll into town before the next football season .
Eagle Run Celebrates Tenth Anniversary On March 3

The Allen Eagle Run will celebrate its 10th anniversary when runners line up for the starting gun on Saturday, March 3 at Eagle Stadium.
As with previous years, the event features a 1K Fun Run and a certified 5K Run. Hosted by the Foundation For Allen Schools and the Allen Council of PTAs, the event is expected to draw more than 3,800 runners in 2018.

The start/finish line and all other activities will take place outside Eagle Stadium in the East parking lot. Designed for families and serious runners alike, the Allen Eagle Run also includes an activity area with merchant booths offering food and drink samples, games, prizes, photo opportunities and giveaways. The title sponsor is Park Place Lexus, Plano.

Details about registration, fees and deadlines or information about becoming a sponsor are available at www.AllenEagleRun.com
Proceeds from the Allen Eagle Run directly benefit Allen teachers and students in various ways. Run proceeds fund multiple scholarships for AHS seniors and support the district's Teacher Tuition Reimbursement Program for staff working on graduate degrees or special certifications. The Run also helps fund the Foundation's Educational Grant program. These classroom grants allow teachers to bring extra resources and innovative learning experiences into their classrooms.

Looking For School Info?
Check Out Peachjar...

Allen ISD's electronic flyer system Peachjar has been in place for a year. The system allows flyers from area non-profit and school organizations to be sent electronically by email and posted online for up to 30 days.

If printed and distributed, over 450,000 flyers would have been sent home with students last year. Peachjar helped save 55 trees in paper costs last year and significantly reduced the amount of time teachers devoted to distributing materials in class.

To view the school flyers, parents need to look for the orange Peachjar button on their school's home page.  Please look for the Peachjar emails and online postings since flyers are no longer being sent home with students.

For more information about Peachjar please visit their website  .
