A Note from the Director
|
|
A big THANK YOU! to all of our sponsors and attendees at our Fall Fundraiser at the Engine Room on September 27. I had a wonderful time getting to chat and meet so many of our library's community supporters in a relaxed and social atmosphere, not to mention the delicious food and plentiful beverages provided by our host location. The word in Mystic is that this might need to become an annual event! Thank you to Karen Bradshaw, our Director of Development, and our Board of Trustees for all of your efforts to make this evening a reality.
October 1 begins our library's new fiscal year, and with that comes a few changes to our dynamic MNL Board of Trustees. I thank Rhona Heyl for her two years of service as President of the Board. Happily, Rhona will continue to serve as a trustee for another two years. I am pleased as well to welcome Bill Turner as our new Board President for our 2017-2018 year. Bill is likely a familiar face to many of you in the community from his work as a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and co-owner of Kentford Farm in Old Mystic. Recently Rhona and Bill appeared on Mystic Matters TV to highlight all of the happenings at MNL. If you have not yet seen the episode, you can
view it on YouTube
.
A special thank you as well to Suzie Canning who is leaving the MNL Board after 8 years of continuous service as a Trustee. Suzie was also Development Chair and helped the MNL stay on course through a number of fiscally challenging years. In 2014, Suzie was honored by the Association of Connecticut Library Boards (ACLB) after being nominated by her fellow trustees for her development efforts on behalf of the MNL, and in particular, the three successful Galas that she chaired.
If you have a suggestion, compliment, or question, please feel free to stop by the library or
email me anytime.
I'll see you at the library!

At this "hands on" presentation, you will learn:

Register for 1KBK TODAY
We are so pleased to have received a grant from the
Groton Education Foundation to start our own 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program.
The program is available to all families with children
be
tween the ages of birth to 5 years old. The goal is to read 1000 books together prior to the child's start of formal schooling or Kindergarten.
Sound impossible? It's not!
Three books a day for one year is
over 1000 books!
Families commit to recording how many books they read together on a Reading Log (provided by the library). As the child reaches certain milestones (100 books, 200 books etc.), the child receives a small prize! We will also create a special bulletin board in the library to mark the progress of participants!
Reach 1000 books and the child takes home a special book of their own to keep! In addition, a book will be dedicated in the child's name for the library's collection.
Sign up in the Children's Room during regular library hours--it's FREE!
