News to Note
Our Story - Ty and Cathy Burns
In 2016, we lost our daughter to ovarian cancer. It was, and continues to be, the most difficult tragedy we have ever dealt with. We thank God often for the church, its members and especially Dr. Jones and Camilla, who were there in our darkest hours and every time we needed them. The church has been our pillar of strength in so many ways, its members so supportive and caring. Would we have made it without WPC? Yes, but it would have been an even more difficult journey than it's been. We are blessed to be a part of WPC, for the great times and the blessing, as well as the dark times.
New Assistant Director of Children's Music
Welcome to our new Assistant Director of Children's Music, Kevin Flaherty! Kevin is a senior Music Education student at the University of Delaware (UD), with a focus in French Horn. He is currently the Philanthropy Chair of UD's Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity, and the former Chorale Leader for the organization's vocal ensemble. Kevin is a drum major for the Fightin' Blue Hen Marching Band and has held teaching positions at Community Music School in Newark, DE, where he worked as a Choir Camp Intern and Assistant Camp Director. He enjoys working with kids of all ages and is excited to be joining the WPC team!
Middle School Retreat a Huge Success!
Eleven middle schoolers and five adults traveled to Kirkwood Camp and Retreat Center in the Poconos on Friday evening, November 3, for a weekend retreat. The retreat fun included kids from two other churches, wonderfully wild games, the zip line, singing around a campfire in the woods, great food, and Bible study through art. In addition, our young people were able to witness and participate in the planting of a tree to celebrate 300 years of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. The weather was perfect, and a great time was had by all.
