Preacher: Mark Ramsey

Sermon: "Unfinished Business"
Scripture: Hebrews 13:1-3, 15-16; Luke 14:27-33

"Now I say to you in conclusion, life is hard, at times as hard
as crucible steel. It has its bleak and difficult moments.
Like the ever-flowing waters of the river, life has its moments
of drought and its moments of flood. Like the ever-changing cycle
of the seasons, life has the soothing warmth of its summers and
the piercing chill of its winters. And if one will hold on, he will
discover that God walks with him, and that God is able to lift you from
the fatigue of despair to the buoyancy of hope, and transform dark
and desolate valleys into sunlit paths of inner peace."

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mark Ramsey, Guest Preacher This Week
Mark is a friend and colleague of Pastor Kristy from the time she spent at Grace Covenant Presbyterian in Asheville, NC. Below is his bio from the Macedonian Ministry website:

Mark Ramsey, Incoming Executive Director of Macedonian Ministry in Atlanta, most recently served as the Senior Pastor of the 2,200 member Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. He moved to Texas after nine years at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Asheville, NC. He has also served churches in the Chicago area, Denver, Michigan and the Washington DC area. He has served as an adjunct instructor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and been a preacher for Montreat Conference Center's summer worship series. He has been a leader and speaker at the NEXT Church conference and at retreats in Montana and Iowa on behalf of Macedonian Ministry. He just completed three very meaningful years as a participant in the Asheville Macedonian group. Mark is an Associate Editor and frequent contributor to Journal for Preachers and has written selections for Feasting on the Gospels. A special passion right now is working with a group of scholars and pastors, funded by the Louisville Institute, on the challenges of race, church, and theological practice. Mark finds this time in church life exhilarating and challenging all at the same time. A native of Central Illinois, he is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia, and also received an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Living Out Our Calling:
The MIPC 2018 Giving Campaign
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit - fruit that will last."   ~ John 15:16

The theme of this year's Giving Campaign is 'Living out our calling'. Jesus calls us to worship and serve - to be in ministry that has a lasting effect on the world around us. Our 2018 Giving Campaign goal is to fully support the worship, mission, ministry, and educational values of MIPC. To avoid real cuts in next year's staff and vital programs and ministries, we need to reach $1,150,000 in 2018 pledges, a 15% increase over 2017's pledges. We know this is ambitious. We also believe it's doable.

We need to hear from each of you. Please go to http://www.mipc.org/pledge to make your pledge. Consider increasing your pledge this year and stretching yourself to make an impact, whether by increasing your pledge by 5%, 10%, 15%, or more. If you haven't pledged before, please consider supporting MIPC and our work. Our prayer is that this year our vibrant and loving community will live out our calling and strive closer to achieving God's kingdom on earth.

Thank you all for your love of God and your dedication to this church. And thank you for the celebration of what has been and the joy of what is yet to come.
Adult Education This Fall
Growing In Faith Class
Sunday mornings at 9:15am in the Adult A-B Classroom
The Questions Jesus Asked , continues through Nov 19th
Are you aware that Pastor Kristy's sermons this fall have been on the questions of Jesus?  Why would Jesus ask more than 300 questions in the gospels?  Shouldn't the reasons for his using so many questions be explored so that we better understand how he used them to teach so effectively?  Shouldn't we also look at particular questions that he asked in some detail?  Might it be true that he is really asking us some of the same questions right now?  Led by Carl and Halie Dodrill.

E.L.L. Class

Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam
Growing in Faith Adult Sunday School Class
Sundays in Advent, 8:30-9:20 AM, Classroom A-B
Christmas or confusion, Bethlehem or bedlam . . . Which will you choose this year? The truth is, we don't have to choose, because Christmas always happens right in the midst of our chaos. God breaks into our noisy disorder and is made known in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  Sometimes we forget that. That's what this study is about - Join us for three weeks as we explore how Christ breaks into our chaos and confusion and brings Christmas - how Bethlehem always happens in the midst of bedlam. Led by Rosemary Sixbey.
