C|M|LAW Produces Second-Most Lawyers Passing the July Ohio Bar Exam

The July 2017 Ohio Bar Exam produced 85 newly minted attorneys from Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, the second highest number from any of Ohio's nine law schools. C|M|LAW also improved its bar passage rate from last year for first-time test takers to 80%, exceeding the state average.

"The career milestone of passing the bar examination reinforces the hard work and determination that define our students' commitment," said Cleveland-Marshall Dean Lee Fisher.  "We are proud of their accomplishment and confident that they are prepared to become outstanding lawyers and leaders."

Student Profile:
Kim Cunningham 

Personal experience navigating the health care system has led C|M|LAW student Kimberly Cunningham, a paralegal, to pursue a career in health care law, including an externship at The MetroHealth System. 

C|M|LAW will become one of only a few law schools in the country to offer an in-depth course on the Federalist papers when constitutional law experts Professors David Forte and Stephen Lazarus co-teach a special course this spring on one of the nation's most important pieces of political theory.

50th Anniversary of the Election of Carl Stokes as Mayor of Cleveland
This week marked the 50th anniversary of Carl Stokes '56 being elected the first African-American mayor of a major American city.  Cleveland.com celebrated the anniversary with a vintage photo gallery of Stokes.   

On November 1, Professor David Forte testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice on H.R. 490, the Heartbeat Protection Act of 2014.  Forte also appeared on C-SPAN3 American History TV presenting on John Marshall Landmark Cases" at DACOR Bacon House.

Professor Chris Sagers continued to build his reputation as one of the nation's leading experts on antitrust law, with quotes appearing on Yahoo Finance, Bloomberg BNA, National Journal and VIN News.  Sagers also appeared on  KCBS Radio in San Francisco.

Professor Alan Weinstein was quoted by  The Atlantic in an article on the federal Religious Land Use & Institutionalized Persons Act.  

Prof. Sundahl Appeared on The John Batchelor Show 
Professor Mark Sundahl appeared on The John Batchelor Show, a syndicated radio program, to discuss prospecting on the Moon and Mars.

Dean Emeritus Steven Steinglass was quoted by C leveland.com  on the constitutional aspects of what was learned from the failure of Ohio State Issue 2.

Professor Deborah Geier appeared on  WCPN's "The Sound of Ideas"  to discuss  the recently proposed federal tax plan.

C|M|LAW hosted its 49th annual Moot Court Night where 3L students Rachel Kalayjian, Patrick Sennish, and Nicole Vincent argued in front of Judge Anita Laster Mays '92, of the Ohio Eighth District Court of Appeals, Judge Nancy Fuerst '88, of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, and C|MLAW Professor Jonathan Witmer-Rich.

Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge  Judge Joan Synenberg '87 wrote a Cleveland.com op-ed on curbing gun violence.

C|M|LAW Community Experiences Election Successes
On November 7, C|M|LAW alumnus Edward Kraus '86 was elected Mayor of Solon, Ohio.  C|M|LAW Professor John Plecnik was also successful in his bid for re-election to the Willoughby Hills City Council, where he serves as Vice President of Council.
