As we head into a three-day weekend. I want to encourage you to take advantage of the time to renew and do a "check-up" with your student. Now that I am an empty-nester, I can look back and see so many of the things I am glad I did as a parent and, unfortunately, look at things I should have done differently. I'd love to encourage you to do something with your student(s) that was a huge success for us as parents and that I even do with other students as well. Rather than asking at the end of the day if they "had a good day," I would ask, "What was the best part of your day?" It changed everything, because it made my son and all of us reflect on the day and find the best part of it.
Even on the most difficult of days we would find a bright part. Some days it was that moment itself. My son, knowing that he would always be asked that question, would be ready for it and has even shared, now at 20 years old, that he would look at his days differently. That is so powerful.
Take advantage of this weekend to start a new tradition; ask your student, "What was your favorite part of your day?" Model and have them ask you the very same question. Who knows maybe, just maybe, you will change your view of your days as well. Have an awesome weekend!
I hope it is "Wheelie" Great!
