The Fall Aging Conference was a great success again this year. It was a record turn-out for the event. There was a short delay in Amy Klobochar's opening greeting, but that was the only glitch. Our senator delivered a very upbeat message and it was a great way to open the conference.

As always, the food was plentiful and delicious. The menu was varied so individuals with special dietary needs could still find many suitable items on the menu. Hats off to the Fall Aging Conference Steering Committee for their hard work, creative speakers, and great door prizes.

We want to thank all of the vendors and sponsors for their support of the Fall Aging Conference. You enable us to put on a great conference every year.

The year is winding down as we look forward to very significant holidays. Thanksgiving, of course, was the Pilgrim's celebration with many "gourmet" foods introduced to them by the Native Americans.  Each year we all continue to celebrate this historic holiday with our own gourmet foods. I love Thanksgiving dinner. It is my favorite meal for the whole year!  I also like to introduce a new recipe each year to keep the meal interesting.  Many times it's a variation of an old favorite recipe - dressing at my house has the usual ingredients, but also has apples, cranberries, walnuts, ground turkey (not giblets), and nutmeg (Swedish garnish). I serve lingonberries, as well as cranberries, and my daughter makes a mean cranberry chutney with jalapeno peppers in it. We've also gone from a sweet potato casserole to grilling organic sweet potatoes on the grill.

The most interesting addition to our celebration is we always invite at least one guest who would otherwise be alone for the holiday. That is the best recipe for our Thanksgiving dinner. It's always fun, different from last year, and gives us a chance to be thankful for what we have and to share that with someone new.

I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!  Try something new on your menu this year, and spread the cheer.

I am grateful for all of you and what you bring to our senior population!
