An important component of the process is the engagement of local community members to work with Trust staff in reviewing applications submitted for funding, and we hope you will consider joining us in this critical endeavor. Workshop: Finding Grants Online with the Foundation Center Directory
Providers new to grant-seeking or looking to diversify funding streams can tap into an invaluable resource with Finding Grants Online with the Foundation Center Directory, a special workshop designed to help nonprofits find potential funders, discover what funders are looking for when awarding grants, and utilizing the Foundation Center's newly improved grants resource, Foundation Directory Online. Disaster Food Relief
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is maintaining open Disaster SNAP (or Food for Florida) application sites, and is reminding Floridians seeking disaster food assistance of important details prior to their visiting a Food for Florida location. To be eligible, you must not currently be receiving benefits through the regular food assistance program; must have been living or working in the disaster area at the time of the disaster; and must have suffered a disaster-related loss, such as damage to your home or self-employment property, loss of food, reduction or loss of income, or have incurred other disaster-related expenses.

Financial Relief for People Left Unemployed After Irma
Federal disaster unemployment assistance is available to workers and the self-employed affected by Hurricane Irma. To qualify, your work must have been lost or interrupted by the storm resulting in your inability to work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to your place of employment. Those approved for disaster unemployment will receive up to $275 a week, according to Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO). The application deadline is October 14. Wellness Grants for Miami Gardens Youth Programs
Alliance for a Healthier Generation announces the Healthy Out-of-School Time (HOST) Initiative, a grant opportunity providing funds to after-school and summer program sites in Miami Gardens for projects that promote healthy eating and physical activity. Grants of $1,000 are available to the first 20 out-of-school time sites that enroll. - After-School Counselor - Part-Time To provide support and assistance to the Lighthouse Learning Center for Children's after-school curriculum support and operations, including supervising children and implementing activities. High school diploma required, as is bilingual fluency (English/Spanish); experience working with children preferred.
- Medical Office Receptionist To handle office duties in the Low Vision Center, including scheduling and coordinating appointments; initial intake paperwork; data entry; assisting clients in store; and performing other clerical duties. High school diploma (AA preferred); minimum one year experience working in a medical office; and bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) required.
- Program Coordinator To be responsible for scheduling and managing the day-to-day office and clinical operations for the Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program. High school diploma (AA preferred); one year of experience working with databases and running queries/reports; and bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) required; experience working in a medical office preferred.
- Teacher of the Visually Impaired To provide instruction to children ages birth to 21 years, develop and implement individualized lesson plans, and collaborate with other professionals. Bachelor’s degree in visual disabilities from an accredited university; current TVI certification; ability to attend and complete required trainings; and excellent communication skills required.
