"Seek the Light, Be the Light"
Spiritual Reflections
By Scott Root, Trinity Campus Minister

Gospel for Sunday, October 1, 2017--24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: "What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in reply, 'I will not, ' but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?" They answered, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes
are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness,
you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him."
--Matthew 21:28-32

Reflection--Action
The parable in today’s Gospel is about action. A relationship with Jesus Christ is a call to action. We cannot say that we have faith in or a relationship with Jesus and not do God’s will. Each day we are called to put our faith and love into action. Changing the world begins with one small action each day. So today, consider, what is God calling me to do to show my love for him?
Saint of the Week--St. Francis of Assisi (October 4)
Saint Francis of Assisi: founder of the Franciscan family, Patron Saint of ecology, inspiration to millions, claimed by people of all faiths as well as by those with no particular faith, a truly “catholic and apostolic man.” Though born in the 13th century, he belongs to all ages.

Prayer for the Week--Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
