Hello everyone, 
It's September 20 as I write this and yesterday Regina experienced its greatest single day rainfall in three months. It wasn't a torrential downpour but we desperately needed the moisture. I'd almost forgotten what it was like to have rain.
On a more serious note, SLA's committees started meeting in September and some of the work will be guided by reviewing the association's programs. Determining how to measure their success and impact on SLA and its membership is important. The board's annual retreat at St. Peter's College, Muenster, SK August 27-28 included great discussions about prioritizing projects for the upcoming year. We also had a lot of fun socializing!

 Mark your calendar for Happy Hour on November 2, 2017!!
The 4th Annual Saskatchewan Libraries Happy Hour will be held on November 2, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at locations around the province. So far we have volunteer hosts from Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Dysart, Coronach, and Avonlea and a few pending. So get behind the events in your community for library folks (staff, trustees, volunteers, stakeholders) and enjoy this opportunity to socialize, network, and perhaps develop some great ideas over a beverage (on your nickel) and appies. - Culture Days final reports are due November 17, 2017. The report form is available as a PDF.
SLW final reports are due January 8, 2018.

- Now that the Performer Tours have been completed, please send your reports to Anne at the SLA office by October 31 at [email protected]. We only need a brief summary of your tour activities, any receipts you have from the performers and any promo material you used.

From Lakeland Regional Library:
Lakeland Library Region is happy to welcome
Richard Bee as the new Librarian for the North Battleford Library. He is from Manitoba and graduated with his masters from the University of Alberta. (Edmonton). When you get a chance, pop in and welcome Richard to North Battleford.
We also are bidding farewell to our departing Librarian
Amanda Foster, who will be missed by all the staff here - Thank you for all the hardwork and positive changes you brought to the North Battleford Library.

Alberta Library Conference: Call for Proposals The Alberta Library Conference planning committee is seeking voices from across the country for the 2018 Alberta Library Conference with the theme of Stand Up. ALC 2018 takes place in Jasper, Alberta from April 26-29, 2018. Submission deadline for proposals October 2, 2017. Read more about the conference and submit your proposal here.

Call for Submissions: Saskatchewan Book Awards
Submissions are now open for the 25th Saskatchewan Book Awards! Books that were published by Saskatchewan authors or publishers on or after November 2, 2016 and no later than October 31, 2017 are eligible, except in the case of the Children's Literature Award, which is open to books that were published on or after November 2, 2015 and no later than October 31, 2017. Please consider applying online through our website at

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
