OSHAWA
Quidditch is coming to town
Quidditch. You may know the name from the famous Harry Potter book series and blockbuster movies. What you might not know is that Quidditch is hugely popular on the post-secondary sport circuit, played on college and university campuses across the
world. And it's coming to Oshawa's Civic Recreation Complex
on
November 11 and 12 when the region welcomes the
2017/2018 Eastern Regional Quidditch Championship. Spectators and students are welcomed and encouraged to come out and take in the action of this up-and-coming full contact sport.
Sport Durham is excited to partner with Quidditch Canada, the City of Oshawa and other local organizations to host the Quidditch Canada Eastern Regional Championship at the Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex in November. The
hope is to garner interest in this unique, gender-integrated sport among Durham students, from elementary to post-secondary, and inspire the creation of quidditch teams in Durham in the future.

Everything apple!
Apples, apples and more apples are on the menu at the annual
Applefest in historic downtown Bowmanville on
October 14. This popular annual street festival celebrates everything from our local apple growers and fresh apple treats, to unique handmade crafts and food products. There are many activities for the kids to enjoy too! Carnival rides, jumping castles and more will delight the little ones, while adults can shop the many independent shops and restaurants in the downtown.

in several large marquee tents and booths lining the street. The event offers free parking and admission.

UXBRIDGE
Fall train tours
There is no better way to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, than by taking a trip on York-Durham Heritage Railway's Fall Colours train rides. Passengers can enjoy the beauty of autumn, while travelling through the picturesque Oak Ridges Moraine. Trips are available on
October 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15.
The railway also offers a special Halloween ride, where the whole family can enjoy entertainment and Halloween-themed activities aboard a specially decorated train. Children age 12 and under in costume ride for just $1, and will receive a goodie bag upon departing the train. Trips are available on
October 21, 22, 28 and 29.

PICKERING
Party in the Park
If you've never been to a
Party in the Park, then the hamlet of Claremont is where you want to be on
October 14. The City of Pickering Cultural Services, along with community partners, will host a unique event to celebrate the life and art of Pickering-born, Canadian art icon Tom Thomson. This unique celebration highlights the art, landscape, heritage, and culture of a legendary Group of Seven painter.
Join your fellow art lovers at the Dr. Nelson F. Tomlinson Community Centre for an evening of unique experiences, entertainment and dancing for the whole family. Thomson's iconic painting style captures the essence of Canadian wilderness and nature. You can do the same, as you take a walk with Thompson as the sun sets. The park will light up with interactive living exhibits and activities for all ages, creating a night of unique experiences, entertainment and dancing for the whole family.
The event includes the development of a permanent community public art piece, which will be located within the community centre in Claremont, and will act as a permanent acknowledgement of Pickering's long-standing heritage and contributions to the arts in Canada and Ontario.

Explore agricultural industries, farm families and farm organizations that have shaped Durham Region and the farming industry over the past century and a half through the "
150 years of Agriculture" exhibit. Delve into the region's agricultural history at the exhibit, which
runs to October 27 at Scugog Shores Museum, and to
December 2017 at the Clarington Museum.
