Beginning Sept. 18, 2017, employers must use the revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with the revision date 07/17/17 N. USCIS released the revised Form I-9 on July 17. Download instructions are also available on the Form I-9 page.

Waiting Periods for Vacation Reaffirmed - A Win for Employers

Employers received a "win" in a recent court case regarding the waiting period for vacation in Minnick v. Automotive Creations, Inc.   The plaintiff left the company after six months of employment.  He was not paid any vacation because the employer had a one year waiting period before vacation was earned.  The court deemed the employer's policy was written unambiguously and lawfully. Department of Labor Exempt Salary Ruling Struck Down

Employers breathed a sigh of relief at the recent court ruling that the Department of Justice overstepped its bounds in raising the minimum salary for certain exempt employees to $913/week ($47,476 per year). This is good news for most US employers, although CA employers beat to a different (and more costly) drum.

We watch the employment related bills closely throughout the year and call our state Senator and Assemblymember's offices to weigh in on the contents.
