The City of Newcastle is one of the best places to live in America, according to Money magazine's annual ranking of the nation's top 100 communities! Newcastle is one of only two Washington State cities on the prestigious 2017 list.
The public will have a chance to comment during two public hearings at the City Council's Oct. 3 regular meeting. One hearing represents the first of three on the proposed 2018 budget, while the other is attached to consideration of an ordinance to renew the moratorium on development in the Community Business Center.

On Oct. 2, Newcastle will formally recognize the volunteers who gave back to the city in 2017. So far this year, 170 people have combined to contribute 1,760 volunteer hours. Invites for the celebration at Resonate Brewery and Pizzeria have been sent out!

October is Domestic Violence Action Month in Newcastle
Mayor Rich Crispo signed a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Action Month in Newcastle.
Mark your calendar for the grand opening celebration of Risdon Middle School, Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, 6-8 p.m., 6928 116th Ave. SE, Newcastle, WA 98056. Come celebrate the district's newest school with music, food and tours of the new facility.
The new middle school opened this August right next to Hazelwood Elementary School.

The process to adopt the 2018 Operating and Capital Budget kicks off at the Oct. 3 City Council meeting. The preliminary budget will be posted at
www.newcastlewa.gov no later than Oct. 3. You're invited to offer your thoughts on the budget at any of the upcoming Newcastle City Council meetings.
Oct. 3
- Staff presents the 2018 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budget - First Public Hearing (on the 2018 budget)
Oct. 17
- City Council will continue discussion on the preliminary budget, including amendments
Nov. 7
- Distribute 2018 Draft Final Budget - Second Public Hearing (2018 revenue sources and property tax levy discussion) - Third Public Hearing (on the final budget)
Nov. 21
- Final ordinances adopting the 2018 budget
Newcastle City Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Newcastle City Hall unless otherwise noted. Members of the public are invited to share thoughts during any public hearings or two open public comment periods. Regular meetings being at 7 p.m.
