From The Top's Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

Apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

It's more than a scholarship.  Since 2005, From the Top and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation have awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to exceptional young musicians with financial need. In addition to providing these young artists with an opportunity to perform on From the Top's national broadcasts, recipients are awarded up to $10,000 to help offset the often prohibitively expensive costs of studying classical music at a high level. Each year, From the Top chooses approximately 20 exceptional pre-collegiate musicians ages 8-18 to receive the Award.

For application and details on how to apply, click here.

Application deadlines
Students may apply for the scholarship at any time, but applications will be reviewed in three cycles throughout the year according to the below deadlines. All recipients are notified on a rolling admissions basis in accordance with our 2017-2018 taping season.

2017-2018 Deadline I:  October 2, 2017
2017-2018 Deadline II: January 8, 2018

National Youth Orchestra of the United States

NYO
Ages 16-19
Application Deadline: November 15, 2017

Each summer, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute brings together the brightest young players from across the country to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. Following a comprehensive audition process and a three-week training residency with leading professional orchestra musicians, these remarkable teenagers embark on a tour to some of the great music capitals of the world to serve as dynamic music ambassadors. In 2017, the orchestra traveled to Latin  America with conductor Marin Alsop and performed a program that includes a new Carnegie Hall-commissioned work by Gabriela Lena Frank and Mahler's Symphony No. 1. In 2018, NYO-USA will return to Asia for a tour with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

NYO2
Ages 14-17
Application Deadline: December 15, 2017

In 2017, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute brings together outstanding young American instrumentalists ages 14-17 to form NYO2, a summer orchestral training program with a particular focus on attracting talented students from groups underserved by and underrepresented in the classical orchestral field. Running in conjunction with NYO-USA's annual  summer residency at Purchase College, SUNY, NYO2 offers an opportunity for participants to play alongside exceptionally talented peers and learn from a world-class faculty. NYO2 aims to expand the pool of young musicians across the country equipped with the tools to succeed at the highest level, particularly those who will bring greater diversity to classical orchestral music and/or those who have not had access to highly selective training opportunities through major youth orchestra programs, summer festivals and camps, or similar experiences outside of their local community. NYO2 is free for all participants, including room and board, and all rehearsal, teaching, and performance activities.

NYO Jazz
Ages 16-19
Application Deadline: February 1, 2017

In the summer of 2018, gifted young jazz musicians from across the country will come together to study with and learn from world-class jazz musicians during the inaugural season of NYO Jazz. NYO Jazz gives young musicians the opportunity to perform as cultural ambassadors on an international stage and share a uniquely American musical genre with cultures around the world through an international tour each summer. Trumpet player Sean Jones, who is one of the field's outstanding
performer-composer-educators, will be the soloist and  bandleader for NYO Jazz's Carnegie Hall debut and inaugural European tour.
