A Message from the Executive Director

Over the past month EPICentre and Odette kicked off the UWindsor Golden Jubilee Distinguished Reseach Speaker Series, with Dr. Olav Sorenson from Yale. He discussed his research on small business compensation patterns.

EPIC Odette Business consulting students also hosted a group of bio-science faculty and students from Oxford Brookes University in the U.K. This garnered great media coverage with our Daily News, CTV News ( at the 22:35 mark of the video)  and Windsor Star covering the unique commercialization collaboration.

This month EPICentre will also make an impact at crossover academic and practitioner conferences. Wen Teoh and Nicole Anderson will host a panel at the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centres annual meeting in Halifax. I will present research at the G-Forum entrepreneurship conference in Germany that proposes the utilization of international student human capital to sustain regional small businesses.

I would also like to highlight the generosity of Libro Credit Union stakeholders, who, together, decided to award EPICentre with a significant Prosperity grant. Working with our partner WEtech Alliance, EPICentre will deliver a Prosperity program in 2018-2019 that supports social innovation in Windsor.

As we move into October, I'd also like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday!

EPICentre recipient of Libro Prosperity Grant to deliver new program in social innovation

We are excited to announce that EPICentre was recently a recipient of a Libro Prosperity Grant, which will allow us to deliver a new program related to social innovation. The Libro Social Innovators Program will provide education and programming to ventures pursuing social innovations and social enterprises. The total project will be divided into two phases: the Libro Social Innovation Workshop Series and the Libro Social Innovators Program.

University of Windsor business students collaborate with U.K. science students

EPICentre and the University of Windsor recently welcomed visiting students from overseas! A unique collaboration between the Odette School of Business and Oxford Brookes University of Oxford, U.K., combines bioscience and business skills to bring innovations to market.  A group of science students and faculty from Oxford Brookes University arrived in Windsor on September 18th and met their local counterparts. The Odette business consulting students will spend the semester working with the OBU scientists to develop plans to commercialize four scientific advances ranging from bio-fuel to vaccines.

The students also experienced the main economic and academic activities powering their respective economies. EPICentre arranged to showcase our region's economy with tours of FCA Assembly, Aphria greenhouses, Pelee Island Winery, Great Lakes Institute of Environmental Research and Dr. Zheng's biodiesel laboratory in the Centre for Engineering Innovation.

Meet the 2017 Fall Founders

We are excited to announce the start of our 2017 Fall Founders Program. We are working with very innovative businesses and entrepreneurs coming from various faculties on the University of Windsor and St. Clair College campuses, including engineering, computer science, FAHSS, and others. The program will host 8 startups comprised of 16 entrepreneurs, who will be working with our Entrepreneurs-in-Residence Maureen Lucas and Dave Kirby over 12 weeks. A showcase of their prototypes will be featured during a Pitch Day on December 1st at EPICentre.

EPICentre hosts Mentor Networking Night

EPICentre hosted its second Mentor Networking Night on September 25th. This event was very successful, attracting 20 mentors to join the EPICentre Mentorship Program, which consists of war-rooms, mentorship teams and ad-hoc mentorship. Mentors with expertise in manufacturing, sales, marketing, accounting, law, technology, global expansion, to name a few, had the ability to listen to pitches by our incubator members and founders, and select to whom they could provide mentorship. We at EPICentre would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all of our current and past mentors who have taken the time to help our ventures grow and succeed.
