National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day Update

The Third National Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Day is just one week away! Here's what you can do to help celebrate.

Looking to get involved in the third annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day on October 8th? Last year's national event was a big success and we welcome your help in expanding the reach of this year's event.

FCHEA is working with its members, industry supporters, and champions in Congress and statehouses to celebrate the third annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day on October 8. This activity will provide FCHEA and its members a strong platform for raising broader awareness of fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies.

Here are ways you and your organization can spread the word about the benefits of fuel cells and hydrogen.

1. Visit our new Thunderclap and sign up.     We just launched our Thunderclap campaign for 2017 and you can now sign up your organization's Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr account to support our campaign! Don't forget to also sign up on your personal Facebook and Twitter accounts, and have your colleagues sign up too!

2. Plan Company Announcements / Events around the National Day for Extra Exposure.   If your organization is considering an announcement at the end of September or early October, consider timing the announcement in the days leading up to National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day as a way of boosting exposure and joining with the campaign. Alternatively, you can host an open house, press briefing, or other event with your organization and invite the media and government officials to you.

3. Encourage Mayors/Governors to   Officially Proclaim   October 8 as Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day.   In both 2015 and 2016, we have had official resolutions passed in the U.S. Senate recognizing October 8th as National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day.  In addition, last year Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper did so, and we expect at least one other Governor to follow suit this year as well.  To help grow support for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, reach out and encourage your mayors and governors to pass their own official proclamations - sample text is provided  here  .

4. Publish a Press Release or Blog Post.     We have a sample press release and blog post available for you to customize with information about your company and share with your followers online and engage with your community. If you need a copy provided to you, please contact me by email at cdolan@fchea.org.

5  . Create and Share your own Social Content. You can share the news about National H2 & FC Day and the benefits of the technology through social media. Tell your own success story with videos, photos, graphics, or other content.  Feel free to use our National H2 & FC Day logos, as well as "I Support Fuel Cells and Hydrogen" sheets.  On Facebook and Twitter, use our official hashtags - #FuelCellsNow and #HydrogenNow.

We were blown away by the support and activity in 2016 with FCHEA members, and industry supporters issuing dozens of industry announcements and press releases, hosting several events and ride & drives, generating hundreds of social media posts, and reaching hundreds of thousands around the world.

We will be updating and tracking our events in 2017 online at www.hydrogenandfuelcellday.org  and can't wait to see what everyone comes up with next month. We believe we can make an even bigger impact this year with your help. If you plan on participating in any way, or if you have any questions, please send them to cdolan@fcfhea.org.

Ontario Seeking Design Concepts for Hydrogen-Powered GO Trains

Ontario is electrifying the GO rail network to transform how people move around the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), and is seeking design concepts for Hydrogen-powered trains as an alternative to conventional overhead wires.

Through the GO Regional Express Rail (RER) program, Ontario will deliver faster and more frequent electrified rail service on core segments of the GO rail network and UP Express. As part of planning the electrification, Ontario is undertaking a feasibility study on the use of hydrogen fuel cells. Recent advances in the use of hydrogen fuel cells to power electric trains in other jurisdictions makes it important that Ontario consider this clean electric technology as an alternative to conventional overhead wires. The Hydrogen Rail (Hydrail) Feasibility Study will inform a decision on how Ontario will proceed with the electrification of GO rail services.

A number of rail vehicle manufacturers will be commissioned to prepare designs and to demonstrate the impact that incorporating hydrogen fuel cells into bi-level trains would have on the performance of the GO rail network. This work is an important part of studying the feasibility of hydrail.

GO RER will bring more two-way, all-day service to commuters and families across the GTHA, increasing the number of weekly trips from about 1,500 to nearly 6,000 by 2025. It will provide faster and more frequent service across the GO rail network and is the largest commuter rail project in Canada.

Grant Funding Opportunity: Advancing the Resilience and Environmental Performance of California's Electricity System

The purpose of this solicitation is to develop and scale-up new tools and resources to increase customer procurement of distributed energy resources (DER), including energy efficiency, renewable distributed generation, and distributed storage. Large institutional and commercial customers with specialized energy needs represent a crucial market for advanced DER technologies. These customers typically purchase energy equipment through formal procurement processes. For many customers' current procurement practices, tools and resources either don't exist or are shaped around legacy energy equipment not well suited for advanced DER technologies.

This solicitation will help overcome barriers that energy technology developers and large institutional and commercial customers face in pursuing large-scale procurement of advanced DER technologies.

Deadline to Submit Applications: October 20, 2017, 5:00 PM
