U.S. Divorce & Remarriage Rates Vary Across Age Groups
The divorce rate and remarriage rate in the U.S. vary across age groups. Since 1990, the divorce rate for adults under age 35 has decreased, whereas the divorce rate has increased among adults ages 35 and older. Among adults who were aged 15-24, the divorce rate fell from 47 to 29 per 1,000, dropping roughly 38%. Among adults who were aged 55-64, the divorce rate nearly doubled from 5 to 11 per 1,000; among those aged 65 and older, it tripled from 2 to 6 per 1,000. The remarriage rate dropped the most at the youngest ages. Among adults who were 20-24 years old, the remarriage rate in 2015 fell to half the 1990 level from 238 to 101 per 1,000. At older ages, the remarriage rate has remained relatively stable over the past two decades. Be sure to check out
