Port of Hope fundraising event for the LUM
Immigration Clinic. For many families in our community the LUM Immigration Clinic is their "Port of Hope." Please support the work of the LUM Immigration Clinic by attending
Port of Hope 2017.
Event details are as follows:
- Date: Thursday, November 9
- Time: 5:30 - 8 p.m.
- Place: Lafayette Brewing Co.
- Tickets: $35 per person
Port of Hope is a festive event with lots of food, dancing, and fun. Clave Caribe, the Latin Fusion band, will be performing live, and
local restaurants will be providing heavy appetizers from the US and around the world. H
and decorated panels from 30 local artists around theme of Hearts and Welcome will be sold and auctioned off
. There will be an auction for opportunities to purchase unique dining and other experiences. Special thanks to
Lafayette Brewing Company for hosting

The money raised at the event will go towards supplies, continuing education and legal training, database fees, postage, naturalization workbooks, document searches, and law books.

LUM Community Thanksgiving Celebration

Donations & Volunteers Welcome

Event details are as follows:
- Thanksgiving Day—Thursday, November 23
- Noon to 2 p.m.
- Central Presbyterian Church
Your gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, or more, will help to defray the $9,000 expense for the meal.
The FREE meal includes a traditional Thanksgiving feast with turkey, dressing/stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and a variety of pies & desserts.

Runner & Walkers & Families Needed

Each year early on Thanksgiving morning (11/23), hundreds of local runners & walkers participate in the
Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk. It’s a great way to help those in our community in need while celebrating a holiday of “thanksgiving.”
Runners, walkers, families, strollers & dogs are welcome. All proceeds benefit Lafayette Urban Ministry. To register go to

LUM Jubilee Christmas - Family Assistance

The 38
th annual LUM
Jubilee Christmas will host over 800 local families impacting over 1,900 children. The program strengthens low-income families by supporting the important roles of moms and dads — and making the parents the heroes at Christmas. Details are as follows:
- Saturday, December 9
- 30 different sites — 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You can help by donating a cash gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, or more to the
LUM Jubilee Christmas program
.
You may wish to consider giving your gift in honor of a friend or family member in lieu of a holiday gift. LUM will send a Holiday Card sharing that a donation has been made by you to Jubilee Christmas in their name.
DONATIONS of new, unwrapped toys, clothing (newborn to 12-year-olds), and quilts/family blankets are also welcome. The Jubilee Christmas Donation Center will be open Monday, November 27 through Tuesday, December 5, weekdays from 1 - 5 p.m. (420 N 4th Street, Lafayette).

TOMORROW - Celebrate the Life of Ray Ewry
|

Lafayette Native - 10 Time Olympic Gold Medalist
|
Each year on the anniversary of the passing of
Raymond Clarence Ewry, Dick Leill and Joe Micon, LUM executive director, lay 10 yellow roses on his memorial marker and share stories about his remarkable life.The 10 yellow roses symbolize the 10 US Olympic Gold Medals earned by Ray Ewry from 1900 to 1908 -- the most until Michael Phelps earned his 11th in 2008.
Ray Ewry, Lafayette native and Purdue alumnus, was not expected to walk after a bout of polio at age 7 and became the greatest jumper in Olympic history.
Join this informal celebration tomorrow, the 80th anniversary of his passing -- September 29, 1937.

Creasy Springs Health Campus this week presented LUM with a gift of
$381.17 as well as
two truck-loads of food for the
St. John's/LUM Food Pantry. The Creasy Spring Health Campus staff and residents selected LUM as the recipients of their annual
Independence from Hunger food drive. LUM is thankful to Creasy Springs for their continued support.
