Please join WGST for our fall 2017 Price Lecturer, Dr. Karin Friederic will give a lecture titled, "Women's Rights, Gender Violence, and Body Politics in Coastal Ecuador" on Monday, October 2 in OLIN 102 from 5 to 6 pm. In this talk, Dr. Friederic examines how human rights discourses and institutions have changed gender norms and responses to gender violence in rural Ecuador. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Contemplating change as both a powerful tool of construction and a disruptive act, Susan Schmidt, Luther assistant professor of social work, will present the first lecture in the Paideia Texts and Issues Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. Using dissertation research from interviewing unaccompanied migrant children, Schmidt will talk about what she found when analyzing interviews with Central American and Mexican children. Reception will follow.

Flu Prevention Event! The Norse Blue Flupalooza will be held on Wednesday, October 4 in the Dahl Centennial Union from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  Cookie and coffee coupons for the Norse who fight the flu! Help protect our Luther Community from the Flu!  #GETVACCINATED. Cost: staff and faculty $25 paid at time of service (cash or check only), students $25 (may charge student account).

Blessing of Animals on Feast Day of St. Francis -- Bring your pet for a brief blessing of the animals on Wednesday, October 4, 12:00 noon at Bentdahl Commons.  Join us in celebrating St. Francis' love for animals and all of creation. 
Wondering how to keep track of your sources, create a bibliography and footnotes? Zotero ( a free application) helps you collect, manage, and cite your sources with a click of a button. Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs). Wednesday, October 4 in Hovde Room (Preus Library).
The Luther College political science department, Luther College social work program and the American Association of University Women is hosting a local political candidate forum from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.

Decolonizing Lutheranism-Philadelphia November 2- 5. An application for students interested in attending the conference on forming churches as inclusive communities is at the College Ministries Facebook page. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, October 5 at 5:00 p.m.
 
SAC Concerts is proud to present Ben Rector on Saturday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the Ticket Office or online (free with CAF, $25 without). Get your tickets before they sell out and join us for an amazing acoustic evening.

Trail Ride: Sunday, October 1 - Outdoor Rec goes to Village Creek Bible camp for a horse trail ride. Cost is $18. Sign up by Thursday, September 28.
 
Archery Tournament: Saturday, September 30 - 1 p.m. on the lower fields. Come try your hand at shooting a bow. All equipment provided and no sign-ups necessary.
 
Overnight Campout: Join the Outdoor Rec staff as we enjoy the fall weather. Reservations are necessary by October 5. Sign up here.  
 
Interested in voicing your opinion in public polls? The Political Science Senior Seminar is conducting research on polling techniques! Sophomore Study-Away Scholarship Give Away! October 11,  7-9 p.m., Farwell Lounge. All sophomores are invited hear stories and engage in conversation with others who have been transformed by the study away experience. All sophomore attendees are eligible to win one of three $1000 scholarships towards your own study away experience!  Pre-Registration is required by  October 6 snacks provided. Spots are limited. Judith Saxton, trumpet, will perform a guest recital, featuring Luther College faculty artists Miko Kominami and John Cord, at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 30, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Saxton will also hold a master class at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, in the Orchestra Rehearsal Room in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Monday, October 2, from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. NIACC in Mason City is hosting a free workshop "Being Black in Iowa." A member of the NEIA Peace and Justice Center will be attending this workshop and has room in her car for a couple people. Reminder: Key requests must be picked up at Facilities Services within 30 days. Students who were supposed to pick up keys in August or early September this year must pick up keys by October 2. Any keys not picked up by October 2 will be pulled. At that point, the department head will need to make a  fixit.luther.edu  request again. Contact Facilities, 387-1146, with questions.
