ArtsOC Selected to Prepare Costa Mesa's Arts & Culture Plan

The City of Costa Mesa has awarded a contract to Arts Orange County to assist it in creating a 5-10 year plan designed to "assure that there is a cohesive, long-term vision that leaves the City with a vast array of art, across many mediums, that is spread throughout the City."  ArtsOC will create an inventory of the City's cultural assets and will invite residents, local artists and arts organizations, and key stakeholders representing the spectrum of civic interests to participate in discussions leading to a set of recommended action steps.  "In a short period of time and in a number of ways, Costa Mesa has lived up to its 'City of the Arts' motto," commented ArtsOC President & CEO Rick Stein, "but we believe that ten years from now a more robust realization of that statement will be achieved through this visioning and planning process."  ArtsOC completed two other recent municipal arts plans (cities of Mission Viejo and Newport Beach), and has served as arts consultant to other local government entities (cities of Irvine and Santa Ana, and OC Fair & Event Center).

BOEING GRANT ENABLES ARTSOC TO CONTINUE WORK ON ITS "RE-CREATE" INITIATIVE
Boeing
The Boeing Company has awarded a grant to Arts Orange County for a second year to support "Re-Create: The OC Arts and Arts Education Sustainability Initiative." This was one of more than $50 million in grants to more than 500 nonprofit organizations across 50 countries globally.
The "Re-Create Initiative" seeks to develop systemic change to the arts funding environment in Orange County. "Orange County lags far behind every other major metropolitan area in terms of investment in the creative sector," commented ArtsOC President & CEO Rick Stein. "Not only does this compromise the sustainability of the cultural assets we've worked hard to build over the past several decades, but it jeopardizes Orange County's role as a center for creativity and innovation."
The grant will support research and development activities intended to spark new and increased financial support for the arts locally from both the private and public sectors.
