Parent Summit: Dozens brave the rain to learn about resources
|
More than 50 parents and guardians came out to Rancho Cordova Elementary School on a rainy Saturday morning recently to learn about District services, ways they can support their child's learning, and community resources available to them during FCUSD's first "Parent Summit for Student Success" of the school year.
Attendees were welcomed by Dr. Sarah Koligian, the District's superintendent, and received a presentation by Cordova High counselors Eric Mejia and Veronica De Alba Cruz on college and career readiness opportunities.
Later, parents took part in a Jeopardy-style trivia game - led by Linda Burkholder, the District's Family Engagement and Support Services director - so that participants could learn more about the District services available to them.
Earlier in the morning, Rodrigo Baez of the Mexican Consulate addressed attendees about the rights of immigrant families and services available to them in the community.
Parent Summits are open to all FCUSD families. The next will be held Feb. 3, 2018, and more details will be available at a later date. For more information, contact Categorical Programs & Grants at (916) 294-9000 ext. 104630.

Rancho Cordova awards $215k in grants to student success
|
A huge thank you to the City of Rancho Cordova for its continued support of educational enrichment, resources, and programs for our students. At its Nov. 6 meeting, the Rancho Cordova City Council awarded nearly $215,000 in grants to benefit District students, including:
- Field trips: Thanks to a $155,648 grant, two Ford Transit Cargo Wagons for Mills and Mitchell middle schools will remove a transportation barrier for many students, allowing them to visit colleges and universities, academic competitions, music and art performances, and more.
- Arts education: The City Council has allocated a total of $49,350 toward two programs that enhance students' arts education opportunities: "Meet the Masters", which provides visual arts experiences for elementary students through hands-on teacher guided lessons; and the Crocker Art Museum's "Artist to Go", which gives students the chance to learn about the museum's permanent collection through interactive projects.
- Student athletics: Cordova High School's Cheer Team received $10,000 to will not only send the squad to the Universal Cheerleading Association camp, but also fund new cheerleading mats needed for training and safety.
These projects
and many more are funded from the city's
Community Enhancement Fund, also known as Measure H,
