           Volume 6, Issue 7, September-November 2017
Hello AMPPE Members!
Welcome to winter! It’s hit us hard and fast with a quick turnaround from golf clubs to snow shoes and skis… which we don’t mind at all. Having said that, this year there is a certain hallmark of the season that you might have noticed you haven’t heard about – our annual fundraising gala usually held in November. AMPPE is undergoing some new strategic planning this year (more on that in the Advocacy in Action section below), leading us to a decision to reorganize the timing of our event. Please rest assured that the gala is not going away – we appreciate this great evening not only for its fundraising component but as an important opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate another successful summer season in the rockies. And it’s a really good time – just ask anyone who attended last year’s gala featuring Rex Murphy as our keynote speaker! So please stay tuned for developments on our next event, you as members and sponsors will be the first to know when a date is set. As always please contact me with any questions you may have at 403-836-4326 or by email at  executivedirector@amppe.org

Sincerely,

Casey Peirce

Advocacy in Action - A New Vision for AMPPE
AMPPE is excited to announce that we will soon be unveiling our new vision and an expanded direction starting in 2018.

As we head into our 24 th  year of operation, we believe that it is time to re-invent AMPPE. We know that it is more important than ever to be speaking passionately about the Visitor Experience in Canada’s Rocky Mountain National Parks. The voice of the mountain park users needs to be heard in our national discussions, not just the voice of the wildlife biologist or environmental lobby group. For over 20 years AMPPE has supported our visitor service providers through many challenges and successes – and we will continue to do so!

The AMPPE Board has been highly engaged in this process and has provided strong support and clear guidance in the direction of the organization. We will be very excited to share more details and news with you around this development as we transition into 2018. Some things to look forward to are a re-focused mission, vision and mandate, closer relationships and information sharing with all current members, position papers around relevant mountain park issues, and a more engaging feedback process for our new and expanded membership of mountain national park users.

AMPPE will continue to be the voice of balance and reason on behalf of our membership, with added focus on the direct mountain park user to ensure that ACCESS, INFRASTRUCTURE and RECREATIONAL ENJOYMENT are well protected into the future for all our visitors and Canadians.

Thank you for your continued support and please contact our office with any questions or feedback you may have.
Condolences to Selby Family
The Association for Mountain Parks Protection & Enjoyment is saddened by the news of Bill Selby’s passing. Bill was a longtime member of AMPPE. He served on our board for more than 10 years and was a strong individual supporter throughout our 23 year history. Our thoughts are with Bill’s family and friends at this time. In early 2017, bison returned to Banff National Park. Coming from Elk Island National Park, they have a lot to learn before becoming free-roaming bison in Banff. Watch the herd as they cross a river for the first time in their lives, encounter their first steep hills and take their first bites of wild Banff plants.
Despite over a decade of lobbying provincial officials and producing report after report to support their position, officials in tourism-based communities like Canmore and Banff still struggle to have their issues understood by the provincial government.
An original film produced by Sherpas Cinema, featuring spoken word artist Shane Koyczan. Look Up, inspired by the pure awe of Banff National Park in winter. Presented by Ski Banff and Lake Louise, Canada.
The electoral boundaries commission has released its final report and with it comes a recommendation to create a riding for the Bow Valley that keeps tourism-based communities and parks together. The report recommends creation of three new electoral divisions – Airdrie-Cochrane, Calgary-North East and Edmonton-South – however, by the creation of those ridings, others are affected.
AMPPE advocates for balance between sustainable tourism, ecological integrity, and positive visitor experience in Canada's rocky mountain parks.

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
