Child Ministry at St. John Vianney

We are pleased to announce the successful launch of the Family Faith Formation program at St. John Vianney in September.  Many families enjoyed a meal with other parishioners and afterwards children attended age appropriate sessions and parents had their own presentation.  We concluded together with song.

The second Family Faith Formation opportunity will be on Sunday, October 1st from 8:45-10:45am OR Monday, October 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm You will meet a family with first-hand experience of the ravaging effects of drugs on their child.  They will teach us what they learned and steps we can take to ward off the problem or counter it effectively.  The children will have their own session on making good choices.  Your family must RSVP for this special event. Please click here for a registration form.

Christian Formation Classes
CLASSROOM REMINDERS - Please make sure you are on time dropping off and picking up your child since we only have 75 minutes together.  We ask that they have something to eat before class, a snack on Wednesdays or breakfast on Sundays, so they are not hungry and can stay focused.  Please make sure they use the bathroom before entering their classroom.  If one child needs to go, the whole class wants to go.  Please also check the folders each week for any homework or correspondence your child may receive.  We appreciate your help and cooperation as we all want to use our time wisely.

ATTENDANCE POLICY and CONTACT INFORMATION - We ask that students attend all classes unless they are sick or there is a family emergency.  All absences MUST be excused by emailing Suzette Hildebrand at [email protected] or calling the Christian Formation secretary at 262-796-3944.  Please leave your child's full name, please spell your last name, grade level, and reason for the absence, so we can alert the catechist of the absence.
Peanut-Safe Zone

During the last school year, the St. John Vianney school community, was in the process of writing important policies regarding food to guarantee that every child (particularly those with severe food allergies) are safe when they are in their classroom.  Allergens found within treats brought inside the building are huge threats to these children.

Since our classes are only 75-minutes long, we would like to limit weekly snacks so we can provide a safe and faith-filled experience for our children.  We ask that children eat a good breakfast on Sundays or an afterschool snack on Wednesdays before they come to class.  If there is a need for a snack in the classroom, please refer to the "safe snack suggestions" below.  If you want your child to bring a birthday treat, please consider a non-food treat and we can always sing "Happy Birthday" to make them feel special in other ways.

It is important that we focus our time and attention in ways other than food and our children will be healthier.  Thanks for your support in creating a safe learning environment for all of our parish youth!

Meet the Saints
St Therese of Lisieux
Saint Therese of Lisieux was my maternal Grandma's favorite saint and one of my favorites too.  Therese was the youngest of nine children and was only four years old when her mother died.  She became sad and serious and her big sisters became little mothers to her.  When two of her older sisters became nuns, she followed their example.  In the Carmelite convent, Sister Therese of the Child Jesus had a new way to serve God.  The young nun would do boring or messy jobs with a big smile and when the other sisters were annoying or unkind, she never got mad.  She tried to make the best of things.

Therese always talked to God about the hard moments and the happy moments of her day.  She called this "the little way" to God and believed everyone can follow "the little way."  "God loves our little steps toward him," Therese said.  She was asked to write about her childhood and her life in the convent.  Titled, "The Story of a Soul," her book became a famous spiritual autobiography.  Therese died at the age of 24 from tuberculosis.  People often refer to her as "The Little Flower" and her feast day is October 1st.  Saint Therese, pray for us!
Wishing you and your family beautiful and colorful Autumn Blessings!
