Special Campaign Edition Fall 2017

"Want to make a difference every single day? So do we. Fight with us to create the town that you want to live in, that you want to bring people to, and you want your kids to stay in." United Way Executive Director Efrat Feferman addressed attendees at the United Way Campaign Kick-off.

"United we fight. United we win. Will you join the fight?"

With this call to action, Efrat Feferman, United Way of Monroe County Executive Director, kicked off the 2017-2018 "United We Fight. United We Win." fundraising campaign surrounded by United Way volunteers, workplace supporters, and community members.

Every day United Way and its network of highly-qualified member agencies fight for our neighbors so everyone has a true chance at a better life. By having access to the right assistance, people can better face their difficult, and usually complex, realities.

United Way donors supports a range of services like healthy meals, after-school programs, job supports, senior services, safe housing, and health care that can help people create wins, whether large or small. When the community works together, everyone is stronger.

Father-Son

Losing a place to live is expensive and destabilizing. 49% of United Way member agency clients are employed, but still face tough choices to make ends meet.

Why We Fight

Together we fight to address the growing needs in our community and together we rise to meet those needs.

We fight because...
  • 41% of local schoolchildren qualify for free or reduced school lunch and their hunger doesn't stop on week nights or weekends.
  • only 24% of working age people with developmental disabilities who want jobs are employed.
  • most seniors can remain independent and in their homes longer with the right modifications and support.
Your donation is at work in our community 24/7 ensuring our neighbors have access to safe housing, nutritious food, and medicine; helping seniors stay active; and providing everyone in the community with educational opportunities to positively impact their future.

Dollar-An-Inch Fundraiser

IU Health Bloomington's Dollar-An-Inch event last year raised funds and spirits as employees cut up  their bosses ties!

Add the FUN into FUNdraising!

Special events are a great way to raise awareness and additional funds for your campaign while also having fun in the workplace. Below are some ideas to help get you started:
  • Candy Jar Guessing: Fill a jar with candy or other small objects and display it in the office or break room. Allow employees to guess the number of contents for $1 per guess. At the end of the campaign, the employee with the closest guess wins the jar and its contents.
  • A Dollar An Inch: Company executives participate in a competition to see who ends up with the shortest tie or scarf. Employees who turn in their contribution cards get to cut off an inch of their favorite executive's tie.
  • Casual Day: Sell badges that allow employees to dress casually on certain days.
More great ideas can be found in the Campaign Coordinator Manual in our online Toolkit
