A Note from Dean Cavalieri

Many thanks to everyone who attended as well as to those who helped organize the Annual General Faculty Meeting. This annual gathering is a great reminder of how fortunate our school and university are to have such a talented and productive faculty to lead our students into their careers.

Please don't forget that this year's AOA OMED convention is happening October 7-10 in Philadelphia. I look forward to seeing many of you there and at the RowanSOM OMED Reception on October 9 at the Hard Rock Café.

My best,

Thomas A. Cavalieri, DO, MACOI, FACP
Dean

Faculty Unite at Annual Meeting

Full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty convened on September 26 for the Annual General Faculty Meeting. The meeting encourages dialogue among the faculty on such topics as curriculum, admissions, faculty affairs, research and student academic progress, and serves as a formal welcome to our newest members.

Following his remarks, Mr. Roeder participated in a panel discussion with Dr. Richard Jermyn, Professor and Chair, Rehabilitation Medicine, Acting Chair, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Director, NeuroMusculoskeletal Institute and Dr. George Scott, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Clinical Education.

Dean's Forum Provides  Campus Update

A near-capacity crowd turned out for this month's Dean's Forum, during which Dean Cavalieri provided an update on the number of new students enrolled this year (186), announced that next year's incoming class will include 200 students and added that Graduate Medical Education is also seeing a record number of applicants for its programs. Dr. Cavalieri also reviewed some highlights involving recent research grants and announced that nearly half of all Rowan University research funding goes to the Stratford campus. He also acknowledged recent faculty appointments, reviewed the status of the development of the shopping plaza behind the campus and reminded those attending of the dates of the annual CARES gala (October 19) and the RowanSOM holiday celebration (12/15).

Dr. Pamela Basehore Named Associate Dean for Assessment

Pamela Basehore, EdD, MPH, FNAOME was recently promoted to Associate Dean for Assessment. Dr. Basehore has served SOM for 28 years, and is recognized as a leader in medical education and assessment. She is an Associate Professor of Geriatrics and Gerontology, and previously served as Associate Director of Education for the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging, where she led interprofessional and geriatric education initiatives. Dr. Basehore established the school's first Office of Assessment and was instrumental in advancing competency-based education and the assessment of educational outcomes bringing SOM to the level of national best practices. As part of Dr. Basehore's new role, she will be assuming leadership over the Clinical Education and Assessment Center, which will be expanded to include more simulation-based training for SOM students and residents.

20th Annual Golf Classic

On Saturday, September 16, students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends gathered for the 20th Annual Golf Classic at Riverwinds Golf Course in West Deptford, NJ. This year's event attracted more than 80 golfers and dozens of sponsors and supporters. Golfers were treated to beautiful weather, a BBQ lunch, on-course contests, team prizes and a buffet dinner at Riverwinds Restaurant. This annual Alumni Association event, SOM's longest running fundraising program, continues to generate significant support for student scholarships at SOM. We are grateful to the planning committee, volunteers, participants and supporters of this important event.

Second Annual Food Truck Fest!
