Linda's Latest Musings

At the beginning of 2017 my goal was to just make it through the year. My father had just passed away, one sister was in the midst of a serious health scare, and our own Margie had just been diagnosed with not one but two kinds of lymphoma. I was certain that 2017 was going to be my worst year ever.

And, to be sure, it has been far from my favorite. But Margie is doing well, my sister recovered better than anyone expected, and I have had some time to appreciate life in our small midwestern town. I also began to appreciate the significance of 2017 from a historical perspective - so many events and anniversaries. We've managed to arrange programs to commemorate a few. And we've got some blockbusters lined up for you in the waning months of the year.

It took some schedule wrangling, but we have finally booked a Wisconsin Public Radio 100 birthday celebration (see above). I have been a Public Radio fan since college (not quite one hundred years...) and am proud that the Badger State continues to be a leader in this regard. We'll even have birthday cake on the 24th, so be sure to satisfy both your brain and your sweet tooth that evening.

Later that week we kick off a major film and lecture series commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the United States entering World War I. We are looking at many different aspects of the Great War and the impact it had not only around the world but right here at home. More on that in our next newsletter.

Thanks for reading. We hope to see you soon.
