FREE lunchtime movie screening - The Economics of Happiness

 
Bring along your lunch and join us for a FREE movie screening of The Economics of Happiness. Popcorn provided!

This award-winning documentary film spells out the social, spiritual, and ecological costs of today's global economy. Importantly, the film also highlights the many benefits of a shift towards the local, and showcases some of the steps people are already taking worldwide.

The Economics of Happiness restores our faith in humanity and challenges us to believe that it is possible to build a better world.

Engage in lively discussion after the movie to share your impressions of the movie and thoughts on how we as a community could move forward.

Community Renewable Energy Toolkit Workshop - FREE!

 
Learn how to install more rooftop solar in your community!

Are you interested in creating community-owned renewable energy, where anyone can invest, not just homeowners?

Do you want to learn how to get energy projects off the ground?

Do you want to know more about the financial component of energy projects?
 
You will learn how to:
·                   identify key challenges in securing funding for community energy projects and how to overcome them
·                   recognise the steps required to develop large and small-scale "behind the meter" solar PV projects
·                   manage risks associated with the development of solar PV Projects
·                   use and apply the financial model template for "behind the meter" Solar PV projects
 
You will also complete the planning and financial assessment of a real project - your own or one that we recently supported.
Designed for anyone interested in exploring financing models for community energy programs, including:
·                  government officials
·                  not for profit organisations and community groups
·                  community energy businesses

Our climate is changing. What can we do?

 

If you think that we need to get ready as a community for changes in our climates, you could join our group of Climate Change Champions.

 

Climate Ready Champions are trained to help people understand how the things we value will be affected by our changing climate, and explore what we can do to take action.

 

You will be supported by Red Cross through:

  • Free training about how you can support other to become 'climate ready'
  • Practical guidance to deliver activities and events in Adelaide's south
  • Opportunity to get involved in Red Cross' emergency response and preparedness

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

 
Join us for a fun and interactive evening hosted by Amanda Blair who will guide a panel of experts through a hypothetical heatwave scenario. You will learn the risks of heatwaves as well as practical things you can do to prepare and respond.

Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day
 













Remember to check your cupboards and sheds for any unwanted chemicals and get them ready to drop off at the FREE household hazardous waste drop-off day on:
 
When: Saturday 2nd December
Where: City of Marion City Services (depot), 9am - 3pm

FREE Community Forum on Solar and Storage

 The event is about providing independent advice on Renewables - Solar, Storage, Solar Hot Water etc. Our aim is to avoid sales pitches and focus on information and education.
Atttendees can expect to hear about how it works, how to save, how different designs work for different homes and lifestyles and also speak to experts.

Come along to this FREE community events to get independent advice and hear from local businesses about:
  • solar PV systems;
  • solar hot water systems;
  • battery and energy storage; and
  • zero-dollar-down power plans, where there is no charge for installation and you only pay for the electricity you use.

When: Tuesday 5 December, 6-8pm

This event is organised by the Australian Solar Council and Energy Storage Council.

 


 
Our local Unsung Hero - Bruce Wilson
 
Last month, Bruce Wilson (Friends of Warriparinga) was awarded the Unsung Hero Award at the 2017 SA Conservation Awards. Bruce works tirelessly, alongside the other friends group members, to protect and restore native vegetation along the Sturt River at Warriparinga.
 
Congratulations Bruce! Thank you to you and the Friends of Warriparinga for all that you do for our local environment.

Trott  Park Projects

Dig deeper and you'll discover Boyd, Cassab, Brack, Heysen, Nolan, Klippel and Drysdale are just some of the 40 plus artists represented in this unique suburb.

 

Please join us in the artistic painting of a shed and mapping exploration with the project artists at the Trott Park Neighbourhood Centre Open Day
