"Slice of Talent": Pie & Talent Auction - Friday, October 13th
Custom Stone Built Wall or Fire Pit? Vow Renewal? Gourmet Dinner? Yard Clean-up? Family Photo Session? If any of these things pique your interest, then this is the event for you! Please join us for a a "Slice of Talent" Pie and Live Talent Auction this Friday, October 13th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The live auction will begin at 7:15 pm and the silent auction will close at 8 p.m. The entertaining R.J. Weston of Weston Antiques will be auctioning off local people and their talents. Please join us for an exciting evening of delicious pies, live music, pie-eating contests, seasonal games for kids AND MUCH MORE! All proceeds will benefit the Community Mental Health Fund which is managed by AHM Youth & Family Services and supports local families struggling with mental health care costs. Relay for Life - Saturday, October 14th
This year's Relay for Life will be held this Saturday, October 14th at the Eastern Connecticut State University Baseball Complex from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (only 12 hours this year). There are several ways to help: join our team to raise money for the American Cancer Society, donate to someone on our team, or purchase a track sign to let all the walkers know you or your business support ACS. Women's Fellowship Annual Meeting and Luncheon
All women of the congregation are invited to the Women's Fellowship Annual Meeting and luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18th in the Fellowship Hall. Following the meeting (at approximately noon), the group will enjoy lunch together. Please bring your lunch. Beverages and dessert will be provided. 2018 Budget Hearing - Thursday, October 19th
All members of the Gilead Congregational Church are invited to a special meeting on Thursday, October 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish House for the purpose of reviewing the proposed 2018 budget.

Men's Road to Spirituality - Friday, October 20th
All men of the Gilead Church are invited to a time of nourishment for body and spirit on Friday, October 20th at 7 p.m. at the home of Jon Kimball (23 Chestnut Hill Road). A time of spiritual discussion will be shared. Please bring a beverage and something to eat to share. A Day at the Farm! - Saturday, October 21st
Maple Leaf Farm
768 Gilead Street, Hebron, CT
10 am - 1 pm
Young people ages 8 - 14 from the programs of the Gilead Congregational Church in Hebron and Mothers United Against Violence in Hartford are invited to visit the farm, develop friendships and have fun! Together we will see the cows, pick vegetables, enjoy a picnic lunch and more!
Transportation will be provided from Hartford. Hebron children are to be dropped off at 10 a.m. Adult chaperones will be present.

Our Deacons will be hosting two gatherings for persons who are interested in exploring membership with the Gilead Church. The first will be an informal gathering following both worship services on Sunday, October 22nd in the Music Room. The second gathering, which will be an informational time to learn more about our church, will be on Saturday, November 4th from 10 a.m. to noon in the Music Room. New members will be joining during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, November 12th. If you have any questions, please speak with one of our Deacons or with Rev. Esslinger.

Wednesday Morning Book Discussion Group
This morning the Wednesday Morning Book Discussion Group will complete their discussion of "A Gentleman in Moscow". Next Wednesday, October 18th the group will begin discussing "The Boys in the Bunkhouse" by Dan Barry. It is the true account of men with intellectual disabilities who lived in what was described as servitude and how their circumstances lead to a court case to advocate for just pay and improved working conditions for people with disabilities. The group meets on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the home of Judy Brown and Deena Watson (130 Charles Lane). All are welcome!

Spirit One Conference: How Christians & Muslims Flourish Together in These Times
First Church of Christ in Farmington, CT and Farmington Valley American Muslim Center are partnering to sponsor Spirit One Conference: How Christians & Muslims Flourish Together in These Times on October 27th and 28th. The objectives of the conference include:
- addressing misconceptions about Islam
- promoting our shared values
- helping you take first steps towards interfaith relationships in your communities
- providing a spiritual compass for youth
- exchanging information on the evolving leadership roles for women in Islam and Christianity

Celebrate HELO's 10th Anniversary - Saturday, October 28th

Annual Drug Take Back Day - Saturday, October 28th
AHM Youth and Family Services will be hosting the annual fall Take Back event at RHAM High School on Saturday October 28th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. You are invited to drop off any unwanted prescription and over the counter medications.

Hebron's Got Talent
Got talent? We are looking for adults and children to perform in our upcoming talent show, "Hebron's Got Talent!" All proceeds will benefit the scholarship funds of both AHM Youth & Family Services and Hebron Parks & Recreation. Talents could include, but are not limited to, musicians, singers, acting, comedy, magic and dance. A grand prize of $250 will be awarded to the best act and other prizes will be awarded. Performers will be chosen through an application process. Application forms are available and can be picked up at Gilead Congregational Church, Ted's Supermarket, AHM Youth & Family Services or the Hebron Parks & Recreation Office. Applications are due no later than November 20th. The performance will be the evening of February 2nd, with a snow date of February 9th, at the RHAM High School auditorium.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Currently the Board of Missions is seeking sponsors for "Hebron's Got Talent!" 2018. All proceeds from HGT! 2018 will be donated to the children's scholarship programs of AHM Youth & Family Services and Hebron Parks & Recreation. These programs support families who may not be able to afford opportunities to develop their child's gift and strength. Scholarships may afford children the opportunity to take music lessons, attend camp or afterschool activities, benefit from tutoring or STEM programs, participate in theater or leadership development programs, and more! Over 800 members of the community attended HGT! 2017, and 100% of the proceeds raised ($6,841) were donated to these scholarship funds. The following sponsorship opportunities are being provided:

Be the sponsor of a half-page ad in the Rivereast after the show, to thank all of the participants and sponsors, plus four tickets to HGT, sponsor seating, a full-page playbill ad, media recognition, and listing in the Church's E-news and bulletin.

Four tickets to HGT, sponsor seating, full page playbill ad, media recognition, listing in Church's e-news and bulletin.
Silver Sponsor - $100
Two tickets to HGT, half page playbill ad, media recognition, listing in Church's e-news and bulletin.

You can support people and families in the recovery effort from these devastating hurricanes with your prayers and through your donations. To make a donation, you can make a check payable to the "Gilead Congregational Church" with
"Hurricane Relief" noted in the memo
. Checks can be placed in the
offering
plate or check and cash donations can be placed in the designated container as you enter or leave the Sanctuary on Sunday.
Know that 100% of funds given to the United Church of Christ designated for U.S. disaster relief are used for disaster relief and rehabilitation programming.

Garden Swap
Our Annual Garden Swap is in full swing! Please bring in any extra produce from your gardens to the Fellowship Hall on Sunday to share. Any leftovers will be taken to Hebron Interfaith Human Services for their distribution. Questions can go to Paul Miller and Bruce Langevin.
