"Commitment Sunday"

Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,

We have so much to be thankful for at Our Savior's! I am thinking about the long life of Nethis Peterson, our oldest member of OSLC who just turned 100 this past June, who we laid to rest this afternoon. Nethis was committed to her Lord and to her church at Our Savior's. For all the years she was a member at OSLC her commitment remained strong and steady until the end of her life. Nethis always gave of her time, talents, and treasures in abundant and generous ways. She has left a legacy of generosity for her family and many friends to cherish and to live by. I am thankful for her example.

This Sunday, November 19, is our annual Commitment Sunday at Our Savior's. Over the past few weeks you have heard the message and call of Jesus' to "Go and Do" - to put our faith into action - to commit to the Lord with all of our being. You have heard from three members of Our Savior's as they shared their stories of how and why they have committed to sharing of their time, talents, and treasures. This is the Sunday when you now are asked to make your financial commitment to Our Savior's for 2018. It is important that you, you and your spouse, or you and your family, prayerfully think about, talk about, and consider the amount of money you will commit to the ministries of Our Savior's for 2018. Some of those gifts received go directly toward the day-to-day operations of our building, staffing, and programs, while some of it goes beyond our walls to make sure we are fulfilling Christ's Great Commission throughout the local and wider world.

The nice facility and solid staff and programming that Our Savior's provides is not possible without your financial commitments. Please understand this and make your commitment to making sure it continues into 2018. The fewer commitments that are turned in, the less programming and staffing we are able to provide. The number of financial commitments received from members of Our Savior's is directly proportional to what we as a congregation will be able to provide in 2018.

You should have received your commitment cards in the mail the week of October 23. If you have it, please bring it, completed, and ready to give during the offering on Sunday. If you can't find your card or never received one, cards will be available on Sunday and time will be allotted during the service to complete before turning it in during the offering.

Many are afraid of commitment. As Christians, it is part of our DNA - commitment is what Jesus invites us in to. Like the disciples, to drop their nets and follow him, or to pick up their cross and follow him. Commitment is an expectation of us as disciples of Christ. Don't be afraid, be generous, and trust in God to provide.

Peace,

Pastor Dale

Announcements

Gratitude Container Collection -- November 19

Recently as we have turned on the news we have seen many tragic events, such as the damage of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and the wildfires in northern California. We may even know people who have suffered losses in these events. To help lighten the load that many are experiencing, it has been decided that all of the monies donated through the Gratitude Containers will be given to Lutheran Disaster Response to go toward recovery from these disasters. Our Gratitude Container collection will be Sunday, November 19th. Coins can remain in the container and placed in the offering plate. If checks are written, please write Gratitude Container in the memo line. And we thank you in advance for sharing those extra coins with others in need. Blessings to you all!
