Williamston Chamber Honors Community Members November 9 

We will be celebrating the people who make Williamston great at the Williamston Community Awards Banquet  to be held at Wheatfield Golf Course. The awards given, to those who have went above and beyond to make Williamston great, by the Williamston Area Chamber of Commerce will be...
  • Chamber Member of the Year: this can be an individual or business.
  • Service Group of the Year: this is a non-profit or service organization.
  • Public Servant of the Year: this is someone who works with the city, police or NIESA.
  • Educator of the Year: this is someone who works with the Williamston Public Schools.
Winners will be announced in Thursday's newsletter as well as information for tickets. 
Williamston Theatre Receives Grant from the MCACA
 
The Williamston Theatre h as been  a wa rd ed a g ra nt f rom the Michi gan Counc ifor Arts and Cultu ral Affairs (MCACA). The $27,000 grant will support the general operations of the Williamston Theatre for the 2017-2018 Season, which will include six productions and many special programs.
 
"We're always so grateful for funding that supports our general operating," said Williamston Theatre Executive Director John Lepard. "It keeps the lights on and the doors open, and allows us to continue the work we do. The funding that the MCACA provides through its grant programs is critical to arts organizations throughout the state."  

Organizations receiving a MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dolla rs. Local businesses who support the Williamston Theatre's 2017-2018 Season includ e Cardinal Fabricating, ASAP Printing, The Draggoo-Huber Team of Merrill Lynch, Plante Moran, and the Shubert Foundation.The Williamston Theatre also recei v es significant private donations and volu n teer support f rom the  communit y.

WILLIAMSTON SCHOOLS FOUNDATION SEEKING NEW BOARD & COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Williamston Schools Foundation is the oldest school foundation in the state. WSF has been enhancing educational opportunities in the Williamston Community Schools since 1981, providing over $1.6 million in funding. This fall, we have provided over $20,000 in funding for projects like a new elementary STEAM Lab complete with 3D printer,  technology for a new individualized and blended learning curriculum in MS social studies, and Salmon in the Classroom at the HS.

We are currently looking for a new treasurer and additional committee members to help us continue expanding educational opportunities for our students. The board meets quarterly and its committees include Endowment Campaign, Grants, Raffle, Lasagna Dinner, and Golf Outing. October Events
 
On Wednesday October 11, 2017 the Williamston Area Senior Center and the State Bar of Michigan at 12:30 pm will provide a Free Estate Planning Information entitled "Learn the Warning Signs of Estate Planning and Annuity Scams."
 
Free Basic Computer Class for Seniors - Thanks for a grant from the Capital Area Community Foundation we will be conducting two free computer classes in October for seniors.  On Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon we will conduct an open computer session in which you can bring your I-pads, lap tops, phones and we will provide assistance on their use.   If at all possible, please send your written questions to the center prior to October 12 so your questions can be addressed.  On Thursday October 19, 2017 at 12:30 pm a second class will be held.  These classes will be held at the Williamston Area Center and   all seniors are welcomed.
 
Monday, October 16, 2017, Sing Along with Dewey Longuski from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Williamston Area Senior Center.  No registration, no fee, just the magical music of Dewey.  You may have heard him play around town with his band, the Red Cedar River Boys.
 
Movies at the Williamston Senior Center - Grandparents and parents bring your grand kids or children to the screening of the Disney movie "Spooky Buddies".  This event will be held on, Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Senior Center.  Free popcorn and pop will be provided for any one 12 years and younger or anyone over 60 years.
 
On, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 12:30 pm the Senior Center will be showing "Halloween Town" with Debbie Reynolds.  Open to all Seniors.
 
On, Wednesday October 25, 2017 the Williamston Area Senior Center is celebrating its 25th Anniversary at 12:30 pm with music, acknowledgments and a great lunch.  If you want to celebrate with us call 517-655-5173 and make a reservation.
 
October 23, 2017 "Find Yourself Through Art" Series - Paint a Watercolor Portrait with Michelle Detering at the Williamston Center.  This workshop will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  Please bring a black and white photo printed on standard letter size copy paper to class.  Picture should be from waist up.  Cost: $5.00 for Williamston Senior Center members.  $10.00 for non-members (it only cost $10.00 to join for a year hint hint).  Please register by calling Carolyn Schein at 655-1339 or the Williamston Area Senior Center at 655-5173.

Needle Craft Group -  meets after lunch between 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

November "Find Yourself Through Art" Series - Dyeing Silk Scarves.  Marjorie Clay will be leading this class.  Because of circumstances beyond our control we had to move this workshop from September to November.  It will be offered twice: November 4 and November 11, from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. Cost: $5.00 for Williamston Senior Center members.  $10.00 for non-members (it only cost $10.00 to join for a year hint hint).  Plus $15.00 material fee (for the scarf).
