Send your photos to pio_department@ggusd.us to highlight your school or students in the e-newsletter.
A Safe Walk or Roll to School
Several GGUSD schools participated in the National Walk or Roll to School Day to bring awareness to student safety, and the benefits of walking/rolling to school. Parents, area police officers, staff, and students enjoyed a safe walk or roll (on skateboards and bikes) to school and highlighted the importance of making healthy and safe choices.

Honoring an American Hero
If you missed the Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium dedication, be sure to watch our video with highlights. The ceremony was a fitting tribute for a beloved Argonaut and American hero. We are pleased to have had participation from our students, including Pacifica High School's Navy JROTC, Garden Grove High School's ASB and Vocal Ensemble, and GGUSD athletes.
What it Means to be a Condor!
Alamitos Intermediate School staff and students highlight what it means to be an Alamitos Condor! The video was made by ASB Advisor Monique Becerra to help show support for the school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) system which helps define the school's values.
Bucket Fillers
Stanley's first grade teacher Mrs. Brown, uses Have You Filled a Bucket Today?: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids  by Carol McCloud to support students in understanding how their actions affect others. Students are encouraged to be “bucket fillers,” not “bucket dippers” in their interactions with others. Mrs. Brown uses plastic containers and pom poms to show students that when they treat others kindly, the bucket fills up. As a result, Mrs. Brown has seen students being encouraging and reminding each other to be “bucket fillers.”
An Amazing Accolade
Bolsa Grande High School teacher Katie Beck was one of eight teachers from across the state to be named a finalist for the 2017 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This prestigious award is the highest honor given in the nation for math and science teachers.

Thanking Our Partners
During its September 19 meeting, the GGUSD Board of Education thanked the Orange County United Way for its strong partnership and support of numerous programs that prepare students with the academic and personal skills needed for lifelong success. United Way Director of Education and Work-Based Learning Sergio Contreras presented the Board with a large check to represent the organization’s nearly $200,000 investment in GGUSD programs this year alone.
