Council Passes $15 Minimum Wage Bill; Increases Begin FY18

This week, the Montgomery County Council voted unanimously to raise the County's minimum wage from $11.50 per hour to $15 per hour, beginning on July 1, 2018. The amended bill creates different phase-in schedules for various sized employers. Large employers (those with more than 50 employees) pay $15 per hour by July 1, 2021; medium-sized employers (those having between 11 and 50 employees) and some 501(c)3 non-profit organizations (those having more than ten employees) must reach $15 per hour by July 1, 2023; small employers and non-profits (those having ten or fewer employees) must reach the $15 per hour threshold by July 1, 2024. Increases after 2024 will be tied to the annual CPI-W. See this chart for more details.
WSSC Begins Weekend Work on Colesville Road

As a part of its Colesville Road Transmission Water Main Replacement project, WSSC  began adding Saturdays to its core working hours. Motorists should expect single- and double-lane closures between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Woodside Parkway to Sligo Creek Parkway. Crews will not be working on November 18 and November 25 to accommodate Thanksgiving holiday activities.  Contact Arun Patel, 240-508-3374 or Curtis Pinder, 301-206-7339 with questions. All Set to Host November Networking Breakfast

Get Ready for Metro Shutdown in Late November, Early December

Service on Metro's Red Line will be disrupted later this month through early December as crews work to rebuild an interlocking system on the tracks between the Silver Spring  and Fort Totten stations. From November 25 through December 10, trains will not operate between Silver Spring and Fort Totten, and the Takoma station will be shut down. Free shuttle buses will be provided between the two stations. On the weekend of December 2 and December 3, the Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton, and Glenmont stations will be closed while crews install radio communications cables. Read more here.
MCDOT Schedules Open Houses on BRT

Montgomery County Department of Transportation has scheduled a series of open houses over the next two weeks to provide details to the public on the Bus Rapid Transit system planned for Route 29/Colesville Road between Silver Spring and Burtonsville. The evening sessions are planned at the Silver Spring Civic Building (November 20), Montgomery Blair High School (November 16), and the East County Regional Services Center (November 15).
