Thank You to the Fall-A-Palooza Chairs & Volunteers

We would like to thank our Fall-A-Palooza Chairs Kristen Derbyshire and Claire Squier and their awesome volunteer team for giving their time, effort, and gifts to make this year's event a success!

Families enjoyed a wonderful Saturday afternoon filled with lots of fun and they created memories because of your hard work. Thank you. We are grateful for you!

Happy Fall everyone! Thank you for these photos Irene Yonkers and Shelly Volner!

Elementary Chapel
5th grade students (Bennett Yonkers, Luke Doyle, Sara Read, Ava Bangert, Dylan Gallagher, Sutton Harrington & Celia Waltos) and Mrs. Bray led chapel together and shared the vision for this year's service initiatives. The students reflected on all that God did last year through our partnership with Christ the Center Ministries in Gulu, Uganda and  shared that this year our focus will be connected to our local community. Our first local partnership was introduced - PROJECT GIVING LIGHT! Please see the details about this organization and our Fall Food Drive above.

We invite all parents to join us for chapel and worship with their children on Monday mornings.

Elementary Crazy Hair Day Fun!
Such a fun day for our students....lots of creativity and JOY!
Thank you Mrs. Sherbanee for sending these photos.

3rd Grade Breakout!

Third grade students were  challenged to open the locked Breakout box using the four Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication.

Breakout EDU is the immersive learning games platform with games consisting of a combination of physical and digital puzzle elements that must be solved in a set amount of time. The better you communicate and collaborate the more successful you will be. Transferring the ownership of learning from the instructor to the student, makes it easy to observe how learners approach problem solving and apply their knowledge.

We especially love the photos of students collaborating so seriously with their crazy hair color and styles - learning and fun is good!

4th Grade Writing Celebration
Fourth grade students worked hard throughout the narrative unit in writing. They developed characters and story arcs in the pre-writing stage.  Their realistic fiction stories contained a problem, solution, and a lesson learned. To celebrate the great work they accomplished, students read their stories to celebrities.  This was an enjoyable way to showcase their work and feel proud of the writers they are becoming.

Chapel - Middle School Family Back Together

Any time a family is apart from each other, it's always a special time to gather together and share what God did!  In chapel this week, students were given the opportunity to come forward and share how they saw God move, how they personally experienced God, or how God used the events of last week to change them.  Students boldly came forward to share about their experience at Pine Valley, Serve Week, or Washington DC, and how it impacted them personally.  Common themes amongst all 3 grade levels were worshipping together as a class, praying over people in public, and being a light to others around us.

What a blessing to hear from the students' perspectives how God was moving!

November U-Group Activity

The middle school students were excited to meet back up with their U-Groups today at lunch and share their favorite stories and highlights from Pine Valley, Serve Week, and DC!  After eating lunch and sharing, the students made friendship bracelets for our friends in Gulu.  The Lavin family and the O'Bryan family leave next week to meet our friends at Christ the Center Ministries in person!  They will bring these bracelets as a gift from MCS.  Each bracelet has teal, black, and white (representing MCS) on one side and red, white, and navy blue (representing Christ the Center Ministries) on the other side, with a cross in the middle which joins us together!  After the bracelets were assembled, the students prayed over the students who would receive and wear these bracelets.  Please join us in prayer over the Lavin's and the O'Bryan's as they travel across the planet to love our friends in Gulu!

8th Grade Dedications Due November 13th

Hello MCS 8th grade parents!

I hope that your child's 8th grade year has been off to a great start - for both YOU and THEM! All of their teachers have been covering your children and your entire family in prayer as you all journey through this eventful year!

The reason that we are reaching out is in regards to your child's 8th grade yearbook dedication. As you most likely already know, MCS always honors our 8th graders by providing them with additional space in the yearbook to help them remember their graduating year. These pages are filled with their individual class photos, a written dedication/affirmation from the student's parents and/or guardians, and four additional photos of each individual student, also provided by the parents and/or guardians.

Please see the attached document that will provided you with all the additional and necessary details in regards to length of dedication, types of photos to send in, and the dedication billing process. The due date for all 8th grade dedications/affirmations and the additional photos is Monday, November 13th, 2017.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions that are not answered in the attached document. We are so blessed to be able to help play a part in creating this year's yearbook and we thank you for your assistance in the creation process. We hope this book is one your children will want to keep for years to come!

In Him,

Sam Brooks sbrooks@marinerscs.org
and Katie Niles kniles@marinerscs.org
