Holiday Open House
The Holiday Open House on Sunday, November 12 gives you a head start on holiday gift buying at downtown's specialty retail shops. They can register for the giveaway of $1000 in Downtown Dollars at 20 participating businesses. The drawing will be held at 4:15 PM at the Art Center, 301 Jefferson.

Lighted Holiday Parade
The Lighted Holiday Parade will take place on Jefferson Street on Saturday, November 25 at 5 PM. There is still time for businesses, organizations, and church groups to enter a float. This year's theme will be "North Pole Fantasy." You can download the parade entry form at www.greaterburlington.com or call Downtown Partners at 319-208-0056. Thanks to presenting sponsor Pritchard Broadcasting for making the Downtown Partners holiday events possible.
Holiday Shop Hops Return
Every Thursday evening until Christmas beginning on November 16, many downtown merchants will be open late to fit customers' busy schedules. The great majority of retail shopping takes place after 5 PM. Happily, we are seeing more businesses embrace evening and weekend hours (which also plays off the restaurant traffic), making downtown even more of a destination.
Historic Tax Credits Threatened
The newly proposed Federal budget would eliminate the historic rehab tax credit. This crucial tool is instrumental to downtown revitalization; among others, the Loft Market, Burlington Bent River Brewing Co., and the Historic Tama Complex were made possible by the program. Loss of this incentive could jeopardize additional major projects in the planning stages. Unlike many such programs, the Federal historic rehab tax credit actually returns MORE money to the Treasury than it costs.

Here's where you can help. Contact our Federal legislators and let them know how important the historic tax credit is. Call, email or message them:
Congressman Dave Loebsack www.loebascak.house.gov
Senator Chuck Grassley www.grassley.senate.gov
Senator Joni Ernst www.ernst.senate.gov

Congress is rapidly pushing this plan forward. Please lend your support as soon as possible.

  • We greatly appreciate the work of the BHS music boosters in putting up the streetlight wreaths - another example of a great partnership.
  • Thanks to Kay Weiss, Karla Mundt, Lin Parks, Hal Morton, Jerry Johnson, and Florence Paterno for prepping and painting the two newest County Seat benches!
  • We're very pleased that the street work in the 200 block of Jefferson has gone so well. The project will be wrapping up very shortly, which no doubt is a relief to the affected businesses. At long last, they'll be gaining 13 new parking spots. Tree replacement along this and other blocks will take place in the spring.
  • Is your business interested in presenting a 5 & V outdoor movie next summer? We have one sponsorship opportunity remaining; contact Cindy Henry at 752-6365 for details.
