Department of Defense Higher Education Learning Community Established
In an effort to better understand the role of higher education institutions in supporting defense industry adjustment, the Office of Economic Adjustment's Defense Industry Adjustment (OEA-DIA) program has created a peer learning community focused on this topic. This effort, chaired by Dr. Greg Jones (University of Utah) and Dr. Chad Miller (University of Southern Mississippi), is designed to allow DIA grantees to dig deeper into the issues and perspectives facing grantees who work at or for local college and university economic development programs.
This learning community is a new effort, which recently kicked off with an introductory meeting held in Long Beach, CA, in conjunction with University Economic Development Association's (UEDA) Annual Summit meeting. Key identified challenge areas included the following:
- Building credibility and presence for DoD diversification research
- Connecting defense firm managers and industry leadership with higher education
- Sharing tools and resources across programs and regions
