HELLO FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

We believe in being good to each other and doing work that matters at Chico Country Day. The following are a few ways we do this.

Our Fall Exhibition season is upon us, student learning and project work will be authentically shared with parents, the community and each other. We hope to see all of you celebrating student achievements and participating in these exhibitions. Click here for the exhibition schedule and mark your calendars.

Twenty one years ago, this school was established with the belief that education should both engage the student and build their character. Life skills are one avenue of common language and instruction we use.  Each week we highlight one of our life skills for the students. As a parent, I found it helpful to have the  full list of life skills and definitions for use at home. This deepened conversations and reinforced a common language for my family while my children attended CCDS. Hopefully, you will find it as helpful.

Regards,
Colly Fischer

Canned Food Drive
November 6-16

The spirit of  Thanksgiving is all about showing gratitude for good fortune and giving to those who are less fortunate. CCDS leadership class will be collecting cans for the Jesus Center's  annual food drive. Not only will CCDS be collecting cans in each classroom, there will also be a barrel to collect cans in the main office.

Please send in donations of canned/ non-perishable food items with your students in bags marked with teacher name. There will be a friendly competition with the winner being announced on Friday, November 17.  Please "SHARE WHAT YOU CAN!"

CCDS 6th Grader Making a Difference

"I like the idea of making a change, making the world a better place. You just start small and grow bigger."  Mason Massa.

Have  you noticed that our crosswalks have been repainted? We're very proud to report that this was recently completed due to the efforts of CCDS 6th grader, Mason Massa. This began with a class assignment - "Find a problem in the community and try to do something about it."  Mason didn't have to look very far.  He knew the crosswalks were unsafe and took the steps to have them improved. Check out the link below featuring Mason and Action News.

It is clear that Mason has a bright future ahead...Way-to-go Mason! We're proud of you!

2018-2019 Admissions

Admissions/Lottery Information Night
An Admission/Lottery Information Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 in the Middle School Common Area at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for new families to learn more about CCDS and our lottery process. Mrs. Fischer will be leading the meeting and there will be an opportunity to tour both schools and fill out a lottery application. To RSVP for this meeting, please click here.

Calling All CCDS Siblings
Do you have a child enrolled in CCDS and another who will be ready for kindergarten in the fall of 2018?

We need to reserve kindergarten spaces for all the younger siblings coming into CCDS.

The 2018-19 Lottery Application is now available on the CCDS website and in the main office.  Because you are a returning family, you do not need to fill out the proof of residency which is part of the application link.

Please fill out the school application and return to Stacy in the main office. When filling out the application, note the name of your other children attending CCDS.

To enter kindergarten, children need to be 5 by September 1.

School Loading Zones and Expectations
  • CCDS loading zones run the length of 11th Street from just past  Park to Broadway and from 11th and Broadway to our parking lot. Please follow the rules of the 3 minute loading zone.
  • Remember that you are a role model for future drivers, obey the rules of the road, show patience and common sense.
  • There is a 45 minute window to drop off students, starting at 7:45 AM. To avoid the last minute rush, leave ten to fifteen minutes early and you will experience smooth sailing through the morning drop off.
  • Students should be dropped off at the curb, not in red zones nor the street!
ATTENDANCE NOTES

We want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn because this is paramount for student success. Check out this  Attendance Video.  We thank:
  • Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job.
  • Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning

We also hope you will keep in mind that school is closed on November 9, 2017 for parent conferences, November 10, 2017 for Veteran's Day and November 20, 2017 for Thanksgiving break and reopens November 27, 2017.

Please avoid taking extra days off before and after Thanksgiving break. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they're excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.

Coat Drive
Ends November 14

Seventh grader, Evelyn Ledford has organized a coat drive for her leadership project. She will be collecting coat donations for the Jesus Center  through November 14. Gently worn coats/jackets of all sizes are welcome.  Please drop off donations to your child's classroom.

Life Skill of the Month: Organization

What is Organization?
To plan, arrange, and implement in an orderly way; to keep things orderly and ready to use

Why practice organization?
Organization is a life skill that when practiced can save us time (since we're not searching for things); improve the quality of our work (we have and know where resources are that can support our learning); and it improves our ability to think (since the physical, emotional, and mental dimensions are orderly and calm).

How do you practice organization?
  • Keep your space tidy and clutter-free so you know where things are
  • Find someone to help you organize your space and keep up with it
  • Manage your time by setting priorities
  • Make a plan for how to accomplish the task--try breaking the task into smaller pieces
  • Make a "to do" list
  • Give yourself a time limit to complete a task

What does organization look like in the real world?
  • Transportation systems operate according to a schedule
  • Bank records accurately reflect the activity of our accounts
  • Jobs get completed on time and at a high level of quality because the needed materials and tools were readily accessible

What does organization look like at home?
  • Place trash and recycling out for pick-up on assigned days
  • Keep personal space organized (ex: purse, wallet, desk, car, garage)
  • Pack their school bag every evening for easier departure to school in the morning

What does organization look like in school?
  • Maintain clutter-free workspaces; clean up after themselves
  • Manage and complete assignments on time
  • Go about solving a problem in a systematic, orderly way

Holiday Fundraiser
Be on the lookout for the holiday sales information packet which will be handed out at students conferences. This is a great opportunity to purchase local gifts for friends and family while supporting Chico Country Day School. A portion of the sales is donated back to our school.  The PTP is excited to announce this year's vendors:

Massa Organics
Upper Park Clothing
Shubert's Ice Cream
Maisie Janes

Staff Appreciation Week
Staff Appreciation Week is November 13 -17 this year! This is the perfect time to show our gratitude and thankfulness for the amazing staff and teachers here at CCDS.  Throughout the week students and parents are invited to celebrate by:
  • writing notes of appreciation
  • bringing flowers
  • stocking the staff room(s)
  • purchasing an item from the Amazon wishlist
  • giving cleaning supplies (cute printable labels)
  • helping with food for the breakfast and/or luncheon
  • assisting in serving/setting up/cleaning up for luncheon

More information regarding how you can help will be communicated via your Homeroom Parent.

Buy-It-Brick Campaign 1996-2016
In honor of our 20th anniversary last year, we are continuing our Buy-a-Brick campaign.  These beautifully crafted, laser- engraved bricks are a way to celebrate your family's time on campus. This will be an on-going campaign that will not only add beauty to our campus, but will also serve as a visual history of our school and families.

There are flyers in the office, along with a sample brick. The bricks will be delivered in batches to be installed in several locations around campus. Support CCDS and honor               your memories!
